Just packing hospital bag now and unsure what to put in for labour at the hospital. I have something for on the ward for afterwards if I don't get home.

I've read that obviously labour is messy so take something cheap or old. But am I wanting a nightie? (I assume that easy access to certain departments are required!!)

I got a huge nightie from Primark... Turns out Tina from Corrie wore it for her birthing scene a few months later! Fet me! Setting the trends, lol. (Yes, it dud have a pitbull on it and was extremely chavtastic!) awful!!

I packed cheap nighties but given I was wailing I wanted to push when we arrived at the hospital the bag didn't get opened.

I asked for my nightie and the midwife said there wasn't time but she did help me undress and then put me in a hospital gown.

It was nice to put it on afterwards though!

I'll put tiara on my shopping list next to primark nightie. I'll start a trend!!!

I always start with large tshirt and shorts and end up naked by the time baby arrives. Sometime during labour I get to the point I cannot abide any fabric on my skin...

I also take my leg off, but that's an entirely different thread..

So who's up for a tiara club? I'll do it if everyone else does!
Pictures though or it didnt happen! Wink

I've got my eye on a short satin dressing gown with cropped sleeves. But that could be a really stupid idea...I've not done this before.

Not yet pregnant but I am so gonna get me a tiara for the birthing bag.

zing you are a trendsetter. Labour wards up and down the country will be full of women giving birth bedecked in tiarasGrin

I packed a big men's t shirt. But laboured so quickly I didn't get a chance to change and was lucky Id even managed to get my trackie bottoms off! So was just in the top I had been wearing.

We chucked my whole outfit in the bin, socks, bra, top and trackies!!

First time I wore a short sleeved jersey nightshirt. Was perfect.

In face, so perfect I wore it twice more.

It's now lovingly washed, and in my memory box.

With both of mine I wore the hospital gown. Baggy enough to not to be too hot but felt like I was covered. Then easy enough to whip down to easily do skin to skin. Also didn't mind that it got manky. Changed into my own nightie afterwards as I had to stay in for the night with both.

Exactly what beginnings said.

Just shouted to DH that we need to go to Claires accessories to get a tiara for my hospital bag Grin.

With DS1 I wore one of DH's old t-shirts. With DS2 I didn't quite believe I was in labour so I was wearing my favourite nightie that I'd been wearing the night before (it didn't get any blood on it though). With DS3 I was wearing DH's rugby shirt and also my knickers and maternity pad because my waters were gushing. The midwife manhandled me out of my knickers when I was pushing and I wouldn't move. DS4 was a C-section so I wore a hospital gown.

I found a dressing gown was handy for trips to the loo and when I was in early labour and pacing up and down the corridors I just wore my normal clothes.

Oh and I love having a bath after labour and getting into clean pj's and having toast and jam.

Shellywelly1973 · 23/01/2014 11:31

I've given birth 5 times & never felt the urge to get naked!!

Infact my last 2 were water births & I loved the privacy of the pool.

With dc1 & I wore hospital gowns.
dc3 a large nightie.
Dc4 & Dc5 vest tops in the pool.
Probably the same for dc6.
