I might quite possibly be going bonkers with hormones.
Am 18 weeks and have been googling travel systems, creches in the area etc. I have even emailed a couple of creches as to how much they charge etc, and they have emailed me as to whether i want to go on waiting list as they are getting a lot of enquiries and places fill up fast.
DP thinks it is way too early/tempting fate to buy baby stuff/put our name down? Am I being PFB? Or should we be starting to feather the nest before the third trimester hits and i am too knackered to go round shops.

I bought our travel system after the 12 week scan and started buying other bits after the gender scan at 19 weeks. Im 20+3 now. The way i see it me buying a few sleep suits is going to have night effect on my pregnancy and for us its good to spread the cost. We've also started looking at nurseries and getting prices so we know what to expect and can start planning our finances. It's good to plan and be organised imo. x

MrsCharlieD · 21/01/2014 21:24

That should say no effect *

eepie · 21/01/2014 21:30

I've been buying stuff from quite early on - as previous poster said it's good to spread the cost and I see it as a positive thing...helps me feel prepared and good to get shopping for stuff out of the way in the 2nd trimester, and it stops you getting overwhelmed if you choose stuff gradually so then as due date approaches you don't feel as if you suddenly don't have anything ! It's a natural nesting thing I think, do whatever feels right.

KiwiBanana · 21/01/2014 21:33

I can't see the harm in it. I've bought a few bits like Moses basket etc and I'm 19 weeks.

Bit daft if you're only 5 weeks but I think the chances of anything going wrong after 12 weeks are pretty low and buying some baby stuff won't make anything bad happen!

qazxc · 21/01/2014 21:47

I think DP is probably a bit nervous as we have had a few pg losses before. We are having an anomaly scan on the 12th of feb so I'll probably hold off buying stuff till we get the all clear, but I don't see any harm in shopping around online so that we can budget/have an idea of what we need.

Only1scoop · 21/01/2014 21:52

Started buying around 30 wks.

thecakeisalie · 21/01/2014 22:13

We bought a pram around 25 weeks but that was only because we spotted a fab condition secondhand one on gumtree for a good price. I've bought a few baby grows but only now at 30 weeks am I seriously looking to start buying the big things. It helps though that this is dc3 for us so we already had a fair amount of baby things, like the cot, from our previous two.

I personally wouldn't have felt comfortable buying anything until after the 20 week scan. It's what you feel comfortable with and if your happy go for it.

PuppyMummy · 22/01/2014 06:53

I have been looking since the 12wk scan. Hav bits in the house that we have been given but not bought anything yet.

Just had 20 week scan and shopping is planned in starting with nursery decor and pram! I haven't wanted to buy anything until now.

juicyjuice · 22/01/2014 07:29

We've bought things as we've been going along, big items later on. Everyone is different but I kinda wish I'd saved some things to do til now as I'm now 39 + 3, been on Mat leave for two weeks and would like something to do!

jaykay987 · 22/01/2014 07:47

Depends on your area - some nurserys waiting lists mean if you're out added before you're 25weeks - you're likely to miss out on the place! Crazy, but true!

We've actually booked to go and look round on the day of our 20w scan. It felt a bit early to contact them, but given this is likely to cost us north of £36k (and that's assuming we don't have a second which will end up at the same nursery) I figured I. Entitled to go have a proper look! I don't want to wait.....and potentially miss out on being added to the waiting list at the right time.....and then have to spend that much money on a second choice nursery!

Stuff......we decided to do most of our shopping mentally. I have a list of the things we plan to buy, and am slowly identifying brands narrowing down to the product we intend to purchase. We'll prob buy any time after 20w scan - when the prices are the lowest. That way we have four months to check prices and get the best deals.

I'm fairly superstitious, but as many say - buying something won't affect your chances of something happening. Just make sure you're happy with your decision to buy.

lizziekal · 22/01/2014 10:14

I'm 28 weeks and planning to start soon (in a couple of weeks), haven't even started looking yet. Can't see it taking more than a month or so to get the essentials.

LittleLight82 · 22/01/2014 12:32

I ordered pram at 26 weeks (January sales) and we got a moses basket yesterday (28 weeks). It's utterly bizarre to see it sitting in our apartment. Like coming down in the morning and finding a giraffe in the living room. So yes, probably a good idea for us to be getting used to this before the actual zoo-keeping begins.

hubbahubster · 22/01/2014 16:45

Same as thecakeisalie. I have 1 DC already so I don't have tons to buy, but have only started this week (I'm 21 weeks), so post-anomoly scan.

dats · 22/01/2014 18:55

27+1 and not bought a thing yet, but planning to soon. Maybe. Eek.

Karen1226 · 22/01/2014 19:10

I waited until after the 20 week scan and the first things I bought were actually for me, like hospital bag and a few cheap nighties etc, this worked out quite well as was rushed in for an emergency appendectomy at 26 weeks! Also I was surprised at how much stuff we were given so I'm glad I didn't waste my money early on.

fay144 · 23/01/2014 10:47

I paid a deposit for nursery at 16 weeks. It's just the way it is around here - if I didn't then I'd risk missing out on a place, or not getting the days I wanted.

Just starting seriously looking at buying things now (27 weeks), and getting worried about the delivery times on the nursery furniture I want.

I'm 31 weeks and all we have is Nursery furniture: a cot, wardrobe and a chest of drawers. So basically we just have a furnished room that we don't even need for 6 months, haha Grin

We don't have anything that a baby actually needs and I'm starting to panic now about how late we have left things.... Hmm Smile

beela · 23/01/2014 18:35

I'm 27 weeks and haven't even started to think about 'stuff' yet, although we already have a DS so most of it will just be coming down from the loft.

I'm a little bit worried that we won't be able to find everything though (e.g. we'll be able to find the pram, but not sure where the rain cover is etc), and there is no way I am going to fit through the loft hatch to go and look!

beela · 23/01/2014 18:39

Oh, but for no.1 we didn't even collect the cot until after he was born (he was in a moses basket to start with) - all you really need to start with is a moses basket, a car seat, some nappies and a few vests & baby gros. Everything else can wait if absolutely necessary.
