Hi, I don't post much, but follow a lot. But this is a problem that's be bugging me for a while so I thought I'd enlist a bit of MN help. My brother is performing at the Edinburgh festival and my parents have booked for my DH and I to drive up there (I live in SW London) next weekend. We shall stop at a country hotel in Cumbria for 2 nights before heading to see the show, then drive back the following day. I shall be 37+2 when we leave and 37+5 on the way back. I feel physically ok, and I don't think the baby's dropped yet, but part of me feels I should be hibernating (sp?) in these last few weeks rather than filling them full of social events. Has anyone got a view on if it's best to keep busy, or leave lots of relaxing time? I don't want to hurt my parents feelings by not going when I feel ok, but I don't want to get caught short or over stress myself either, the money for the trip is also a bit of an issue......dilema!

Sorry to ramble, honest thoughts needed.

ooh, you're probably be all right - but you know best! IMHO takes women different ways - I was all for packing everything in (visits/nights out) until about 2 weeks to go then nesting in earnest...does yr family have a history of early babies? if not, and it's yr first, should be fine,s so go & enjoy the festival I would!

How long is the drive ? Personally found it hard to sit for more than a couple of hours at a stretch by that stage but we went away for a weekend about a month before ds arrived and again before dd arrived and I felt fine 9both were late too !). Take a basic hospital kit and notes just in case.

oh sounds exciting. I am 37 ish weeks now and I think I'd go. I would find out where the hospital is in edinburgh though!

I went to Wales (live in Berkshire) with about 3 days to go. I was 10 days overdue

i went away with 2weeks to go with ds1 and 1 week to go with ds2. just took hospital bag and notes. However it is how you feel, would travelling by train by easier and hiring a car once you are in Edinburgh be a option?

cece · 29/07/2006 12:42

I think overall I would go. My main concern would be the journey. Just pack your notes and baby stuff just in case. They do have hospitals up north so you should be OK if anything happens!

Ohhh thanks for the re assurance. I have had a few people close to me raise an eyebrow at my plans, even though we have no history of early babies in the family and I feel fine. We are going in 2 cars so me a DH will be able to stop a lot so I can walk about. I can still cancel the hotels till Friday and I'll make my final decision then, but if I still feel ok then I'll pack my notes and head off. I just want to keep the last week or so free when I get back, to relax and nest.

If you feel ok then go for it, I personally can barely sit still for more than 30mins at a time get leg cramps and need to go loo. However everyones different and its not like your going abroad. See how you feel a bit closer to the time if your mind is still having doubts then you should not go, but if all is well have a good time!
