Did you suffer constipation on iron supplements?

And if so, how long after starting the supplements did your troubles begin?

I started on tablets 2 days ago (two tablets a day) with the knowledge that some people get constipated, but I'm worried that actually it happens to most women! not just 'some' Hmm

I was talking to my sister about it and she said when she'd been pregnant she also had to take supplements and she didn't poo for AGES and she was in so much pain that she eventually refused to take them - by the time she gave birth her iron levels were at 7 Shock

She said though that her troubles didn't start straight away and actually didn't start suffering until she'd been on them for a few weeks. Is that quite common??

And what happened if your constipation became unbearable?
Were you expected to just put up with it?

I am on liquid ferrous fumerate, I have been constipated which is unusual for me. It started a week in, I was advised to take it every other day as long as I have a healthy diet full of fruit and veg (which I do).

MrsBug - I suppose if one are 9 too then I'd best be good and take my pills. I just can't bear the thought of constipation and piles etc, it just sounds horrendous Sad So drinking lots of water and eating lots might help things along, I will remember that.

I've had no problems yet but I've only had about 4 of the tablets - who knows, maybe I'll be lucky and not be affected Hmm yeah, right....
