Should I wake DH?

I'm 38+2 w no3. 1st two, my waters clearly went before contractions started, without any prior symptoms. With this baby, I've already had 2 false alarms (one when I thought my waters had gone, the other when I was having BH that I thought were turning into contractions).

I went to bed last night and woke w period pains about 11.30. Woke again about 1.30 and am awake again now. Pain kind of dull and regular, rather than contraction- like.

I feel like the boy who cried wolf so don't want to wake DH unless this is it. But if it is, we'll need PIL to come and look after DC. They're only 15 min drive away and have said it'll take 30 mins to get to us (inc getting up ).

I've had pretty quick labours before - less than 4.5 hrs from waters to baby w no2. Not sure if I should leave DH or not. If I do, he prob won't fall back to sleep though, and I'll feel like a chump if it's nothing.

Hi! Smile

I'd go with your gut instinct. I'm sat up feeding my false alarm! was convinced my labour pains were constipation til a midwife examined me and I was 9.5!

justmuddlingalong · 18/01/2014 04:10

G'mornin! Is it a constant ache or are the pains coming and going?

LadyFlumpalot · 18/01/2014 04:10

Although, reading your post again, if the pain is not coming and going...

Have you tried getting up for a cup of tea, might make it more conclusive either way.

Apparentlychilled · 18/01/2014 04:12

More like a constant ache for maybe 30 mins but then it subsides a bit so I can go back to sleep, before restarting. Waters still intact though.

I would try and get a bit of rest TBH. The hospital usually tell you to come in when your contractions are coming regularly and can be timed, getting closer together. Although if you feel nervous wake DH up to keep you company.

LadyFlumpalot · 18/01/2014 04:22

TBH - that doesn't sound like contractions (to me). I still say get up for a cup of tea - see what happens after a walk around the house.

Apparentlychilled · 18/01/2014 04:29

I kind of think that till my waters go, it's just the baby playing silly buggers. So I kind of wish they'd do or the baby wd settle down, as this really hurts!

I was the same, unsure if this was it, so went downstairs pottered about then had a bath, by then the pains took my breath away and I had to wake DP at 2.45am.
DS born at 5am in hospital birthing pool. Waters didn't go til 9+ cm (was 8 on arrival)
Now sat up feeding... Good luck

Apparentlychilled · 18/01/2014 04:34

Going to go and do some tidying and have some milk and then see if I can either sleep or if things have developed.

I'd go and have a bath & if u have lap top/ ipad watch something on iplayer to take your mind off it. Good luck x

Apparentlychilled · 18/01/2014 05:21

They're coming in waves now but still very manageable. DC's clothes are nice and tidy at least. Everyone will be up around 6.30 or so, so going to try to get some sleep.

Good luck! If theyre getting more painful sounds like it might be the real deal. My waters went about 5 hours after contractions started so it's very possible this labours just a bit different to your others!

Allice · 18/01/2014 06:01

How exciting! Good luck!!

My labour started as period pains at midnight 2 weeks ago! Good luck, so excited for you!

beginnings · 18/01/2014 08:16

Word of warning, my second stage with no 2 lasted three mins!! I wouldn't wait until your waters go!!

JanetAndRoy · 18/01/2014 08:22

Ooh! This is exciting!
Any news Apparently?

Apparentlychilled · 18/01/2014 08:52

Was in quite noticeable pain around 7, so DH got up w children. Then it all eased till just now, and it really hurts. I feel really hot and bothered and out of sorts. Don't want to call PIL unless I'm sure- after 2 false alarms w this one I feel too much of a chump already.

Sorry, I meant I had a couple of painful contractions around 7-7.15, which then went away to just a dull ache/awareness of my pelvis. Pain has restarted.

My third labour was 40 minutes and 8 contractions. (Waters were broken at the hospital about 3 seconds before delivery)

Don't leave it too long.

sittingbythepoolwithenzo · 18/01/2014 09:05

It sounds like it's happening today - why not let the inlaws know anyway, then you won't have to call them in a panic?

Apparentlychilled · 18/01/2014 09:22

My PIL and DH are v understated and I think are quite bemused by the 2 false alarms so far, so I'm staying schtum for now. DH is taking children out locally in a few minutes for a couple of hrs. I guess by the time they're back, things will either have settled and I'll have had a chance to rest or progressed.

Slept for an hour or so. All gone quiet w contractions. 3 false alarms w one pregnancy?!- this is getting silly!

I had this with DD2, you have my sympathies. When I eventually went into labour, it was proper contraction, stop, contraction, stop - where as before it was gripping, period like pain, stop, ache, stop etc.

It's so tiring Sad

Apparentlychilled · 18/01/2014 16:24

I'm now having pains every 5-7 mins, for about 45 seconds- 1 min or so. Still not unbearable pain (been having them at increasingly regular intervals since 2pm). So think we'll call PIL or friends soon and hopefully this'll be No3 coming soon.
