How long after did you need them for and were you changing them like you would a maternity pad? I know it all depends on how long you breast feed for, I'm hoping To do a week or so (or however long my boobs will take it if at all!) but am going out to buy the bits for my hospital bag and toiletries I'll need so any help or suggestions much appreciated! Just after some idea how many pads I should buy and any other essentials?

I bought a pack, and never used it all! I bf for over a year, but never leaked!

I did also buy reusable ones. They got stuck in a pipe in the washing machine, and my oh had to take it apart.

Oh and mothercare do maternity pads with wings, which I never found elsewhere.

I didn't leak loads but I did need pads every day. I found 8 reusable little lambs pads were brilliant and all I needed. I tried some throwaway ones and they were more bulky and uncomfortable.

I also loved the little lamb bamboo breast pads and found them absorbent enough. I pissed out milk from the other boob while feeding and had to wear pads until I stopped feeding at 15mo pretty much!
Before I got the reusables, I used Johnson's pads and they were pretty good. As for maternity pads, buy more than you think you'll need!

I vividly remember getting out of the shower in the early days after ds was born, and not knowing which to stem first - boobs (leaking cos ds was invariably crying by that point) or bits! Messy business, birth :) I'll put inco pads down on the bath mat this time and not worry about it then.

I bought a box of Lansinoh ones but I have been breastfeeding for over 7 months now and I haven't needed them!

From my baby group it seems really variable as to whether you will need breast pads so don't overbuy as you may be lucky like me and not really need them.
We all under bought maternity pads - even though they are chunkier than a sanitary towel and you need a good big pair of knickers to hold them in they are a necessity and most of us went through several packs - I was probably going through a pack in 2/3 days at the start and I was bleeding for at least a month, although it did slow down.
(p.s. cheap big cotton black knickers from primark that you can then chuck away!)
Lansinoh is expensive and the tube lasts forever. If you have friends that have already had children then they may be able to pass on - I used religiously for 12 weeks and it still looks untouched. P.s. the midwives have small sachets to give out (ours did) and I found that one of those lasted me a good few days.

Lansinoh pads are 1/3 off at sainsbo's at the minute (I bought a pack just in case).
I think the lansinoh cream is also cheaper on amazon than boots etc (as is bio oil for any stretch marks - half the price!).
