Pregnancy weight gain

I'm 22 weeks and have put on a stone. I'm already well above my 'you're supposed to be this' weight - and I just cannot stop eating. I work from home so have the freedom to eat all the time, which I do. I think one of the reasons I have had absolutely no nausea is because I have managed to eat constantly. I could just eat all day to be honest, I am really enjoying food as I always have but have always been around a size 10 or smaller 12 at 130lb but am now nearly 150lb.
I went jogging a couple of times a week in my first trimester but then got an awful cold that's stayed around and just haven't been exercising for about 6 weeks.
I am worried I won't be able to lose the weight afterwards.
Has anyone else put on this much and were you able to lose it afterwards?

Have a look at this thread:

I gained 40 pounds while pregnant. I was really surprised to see that it came off easily in a few months. With healthy eating and bf I've lost a stone of pre prego weight!

Suzietwo · 15/01/2014 09:06

blimey!! i am 21 weeks and have nearly put on a stone and think i'm doing brilliantly!

i went up 5st and 4.5 stone in total during my last 2 pregnancies.

Pinkbell123 · 15/01/2014 09:26

I got chatting to a lady in the supermarket yesterday. She was v glam and slim. Told me she had gained 5 stone with her first and 4 and a half with her second and the weight just fell off after birth.

Everyone's different so just keep doing what your body tells you too.

Suzietwo · 15/01/2014 09:35

that could have been me

save for the glam and slim parts

LucyB1 · 15/01/2014 09:42

i'm only 15 weeks and put on 8lb already!! Lets not forget its winter and has been Christmas which can encourage eating!

LastOneDancing · 15/01/2014 10:33

I think you're doing really well! Gosh I managed to lump on 2 stone by 16 weeks Smile same as you, I ate carbs constantly to stop the sickness. I wouldn't have touched bread with a bargepole before.

But at 28 weeks I can report I have very little appetite due to Babylast squishing everything and really have evened out a lot. Im eating smaller regular portions rather than constant grazing.

Fingers crossed it might be the same for you in the next few weeks and you'll start feeling better.

Mummyinpink1289 · 15/01/2014 11:51

Im usually a size 10 also and put on 4 stone in both of my pregnancies so please dont be worried. I went back to my normal weight within 6 months to a year after my babies were born.
Im pregnant with my 3rd now and convinced i will not put on that much weight this time! -

Mummyinpink1289 · 15/01/2014 11:55

...although i said this second time around and still ended up eating like a horse throughout the whole pregnancy! Blush

summerbaby2014 · 15/01/2014 11:58

I am on a similar path OP.

I don't worry about what I'll look like or how hard it will be to lose it. But I do worry about the stories of birth being more difficult if you have gained too much weight during pregnancy.

Perhaps those who put on a few stones can offer reassurance of this??

LadyGoneGaga · 15/01/2014 12:01

I gained 4 or 5 stone with both mine. Was back in a size 10 within 6 months so don't worry. The birth was fine as well.

ChicaMomma · 15/01/2014 12:21

I've put on a stone and i'm 18 weeks.

MY sis and sil both said they did also- but that in total they only put on 2 stone so in essence gained the most in the first trimester. I hope i am the same!

My appetite is through the roof too- although it does seem to be levelling out somewhat.

Mummyinpink1289 · 15/01/2014 12:35

i supose it depends what starting weight u were as to if it would have any implications on the actual birth - even though i put on 4 stone which would have taken me up to 12 and a half stone that still didnt make me very 'big' in terms of non baby weight. i still looked not pregnant from behind etc and it all went around my middle and on my face. Had no affect on the birth what so ever.

as you said youre a size 10, i really wouldnt be worried, you will be fine :-)

MrsPatMustard · 15/01/2014 14:23

Definitely ignore all those charts that say 'by week X you should have gained approx x pounds'. I found the weight didn't go on evenly. I had growth spurts at around 18 weeks and about 26 weeks where i suddenly jumped up a lot, and then would maybe have a month where I didn't gain anything at all....

ChicaMomma · 15/01/2014 14:31

I'm the same MrsPat.. i gained a stone in about 13 weeks and then from 13-18 didnt gain a pound.. i think i actually lost 2 lbs, not sure how, well actually it was probably down to copping on and cutting out junk after the first trimester!

RaRa1988 · 15/01/2014 15:40

I don't suppose you can actually control how much weight you put on as long as you eat and exercise sensibly, can you? I've been freaking out a bit about this because at 19 weeks I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life (8st9) and not feeling too great about it! I also can't work out whether I've put on 5 pounds, 7, or 2.... I was 8st7 before I got pregnant, which was a little heavy for me, so I was back down to 8stone4 within a couple of weeks, and then I went right down to 8stone-8stone 2 with HG during weeks 7-10.

Mummyinpink1289 · 15/01/2014 15:48

ur tiny rara , wish i was 8st9 at 19 weeks! the thing is, i did the whole ' im pregnant so ill just eat whatever i want' thing. didnt do me any harm really but i felt so crap througout the last trimester cos my face went fat and i just didnt feel good in anything i put on so i dont want to think like that again this time.

K8eee · 15/01/2014 16:11

I'm 30 weeks, and have put on a stone in all. Admittedly before pregnancy I wasn't the most fittest or toned but at 5ft 7 I weighed 11 and a half stone and was a size 12/14. I suffered with morning sickness until 18 weeks, so my diet was very little, and when I did eat it wasn't much more than a few mouthfuls when it came to a main meal. I think it's only been the last few weeks I've probably my put weight on because of Christmas & I am enjoying eating again. I'm hoping I can shed my pregnancy weight pretty quickly, as I don't look fatter anywhere apart from my bump. I can normally tell if I've out weight on from a ring I get around my neck but it hasn't appeared so far Smile fingers x I can find some other local mums who will want to get fit too, and find myself an aerobics/gym buddy

Cariad007 · 15/01/2014 16:21

I've put on about 5kg in total and I'm nearly 36 weeks. Not sure how much that is in lbs - about 11? I have a fairly balanced diet and am still doing 4 classes at the gym each week so am hoping I don't suddenly stack the weight on in the last month!

bebbeau · 15/01/2014 16:41

i gained 3 stone with dc1

17lbs with dc2

and am 27+5 pregnant with dc3 and have gained 10lbs so far

started at around 8stone each time but i am only five 2

it came off very quickly with dc1 so i really think it was mostly water, and although i did not gain much with dc2 hers took ages to shift :o

so i really do think everyone is different and to me a stone at 22 weeks doesn't sound too bad

BEEwitched · 15/01/2014 16:41

Everybody is really different - I've been home for 12 weeks whereas normally I'm in a really active job and I've put on more weight than I thought I had, I'm 21 weeks and most of my pre-pregnancy jumpers still fit fine! Not ideal as I'm overweight, but I'm starting a pregnancy weight management programme at my hospital next week which should help me with the rest of my pregnancy.

A friend of mine put on 30kg in pregnancy, and she lost it all really quickly in the months after baby arrived.

HelpMyHair · 15/01/2014 16:51

Have these made you feel a bit better OP? Hope so :)

With DS I went from a size 6-8 to a 16, didn't dare look at the scales though!

I'm 17 weeks with this one and put on half a stone so far, but I think that's only cos last time scared me. I'm not too fussed really though as I know after DS the weight fell off even from not doing much. My appetite disappeared as soon as he came out and the breast feeding helped the rest of it fall off. By the time he was 6 months I was ready to start exercising to get that last bit off and build my self esteem.

There really is no rush though, the most important thing is to settle yourself in to motherhood.

gemmaj66 · 15/01/2014 17:03

I wouldn't worry as I honestly think you put on what you need to. I seem to pile it on when I'm pregnant but it drops off afterwards.

I was losing a pound a day during the first couple of weeks of breastfeeding DC3 despite eating like a horse!

I'm nearly 37 weeks with DC4 and have put on 2 stone 5, but like mrs pat it was in fits and starts rather than a steady gain. Figure that if I lose a stone or so giving birth and then have the usual breastfeeding weight loss I should be back at pre-pregnancy weight in no time!

She said hopefully... Grin
