Risks of norovirus and medications in early pregnancy

Hi ladies,
I'm new to all this and just found out I am now 6weeks pregnant with 1st baby. I was in a car accident in Nov and so have been on strong painkillers (co-codamol, naproxen, diazepam). I also had a terrible d and v bug last week which totally knocked me out. Having read about the painkillers it seems there are risks to the developing foetus and my 1st visit to GP to discuss it yesterday led to her saying quite casually there is no guarantee the medication and d and v won't cause a miscarriage. I am now even more nervous as I was hoping she would reassure me! I also had some bleeding last week (just one day) which I had thought might be AF or due to diarrhoea, but GP said it could have been implantation bleed. Seemed to be quite a lot of blood though. Any of your experiences and advice would be most welcome! Thanks x

Hi vichw,
I'm so sorry you're finding yourself anxious about the norovirus and meds.
I think quite a few ladies will have had D and V bugs early on - and remember loads of fetuses thrive perfectly well in mums with hyperemesis!

The thing about this early stage is that all women are in the same horribly nerve wracking situation, when you just don't know what the weeks ahead hold and there's, unfortunately, no way to fast forward and reassure yourself.
I think it's important to try and find a way to be ok with the the fact this is out of your control (beyond taking folic acid, etc). It's really, really hard!

Hi Julietee,
Thanks for your response. I know you're right and all I can do now is be as healthy as possible and get regular check ups etc. I suppose there's no point in getting myself all anxious about it. I can't control the past! Smile

I had a d&v bug at 5 weeks. I'm 7.5 weeks now. I'm not worried about it.
