Normally for a new born baby it would be a size 1. It normally depends on their weight so as they gradually get heavier you would go up to the next size.

When babies are just born I don't think it really matters what brand you use but as they get a wee bit older I would recommend Pampers. I have tried all the brands and they are definitely best in my view.

I've had 4 babies. All were average or above average weight and all stayed in size 1 for about two weeks. It is worth buying a couple of packs of Size 1 and a couple of size 2. You can always send DP / helpful friend on an errand to buy more after your baby arrives.

I liked Pampers newborn for the first few weeks. DD wears Tesco / Sainsbos own now she's bigger and they are great - much cheaper.

I wouldn't buy any size 1, join pampers, asda, sainsbury, tesco, boots etc baby clubs, they often give away free packs of size 1 nappy or else send a couple of freebies out. You also get vouchers with bounty and emmas diary, I got at least 2 free packs in my last pregnancy. Mam, nuc, bepanthen and hipp also do freebies such as bottles, dummies, toddler milk, bibs and spoons. I love all the freebies! It became a wee game to see what I could get - boots also give a away a great change bag.
I didn't like pampers newborn but I like them for older babies, I have started buying asda newborn size 2 for the new addition. Huggies were my favorite newborn though, I also like boots own brand.

I would get supermarket own brand newborn nappies. Newborn babies poo for England and you may find you go through ten nappies a day. Small babies don't need much absorbancy as they poo/wee little and often.

Or I can be a maverick and and suggest terries/ muslim squares!

my baby is 6 wks tomorrow and is still in size 1, he ls long and skinny rather than chubby so hasn't moved up size yet.if you get some newborn ones and keep the receipts in case you don't use them. we just use tesco ones, we had some sensitive pampers when LO had a red bottom for a few days - pampers are good at the start as they have the line indicator which was great for a novice like me!

Thanks for the advice. I have ordered pampers size 1 nappies. The indicator seems like a good idea. scarletwitch I am very wary of freebies as whenever I sign up for something I get tons of spam. SMS I still haven't received my boots changing bag but am getting all the automated mails from them
