Bloody bloody blood pressure! Will have to fight not to be admitted to hospital.

I've had high blood pressure since very early in pregnancy. It has taken me 3and ahalf months to get used to the tablets and now it's up again. This morning I have had to fight not to be admitted to hospital. Anyway I've got to go back to hospital this afternoon and I know i'm going to have to fight again. The Spanish system on one hand is great but on the other hand is quite fragmented as in the health centre won't have told the hospital what we have agreed. I don't want to leave dd who is 5. Sorry rant over.

Just saw your post below...I'm so sorry, Lucy. I would feel the same about leaving my 2.5 year old. Is there anyone who can accompany the two of you into hosipital, till it gets sorted as to what happens next? I imagine they want to stablize your bp, and check for pre-eclampsia. THinking of you, xx

Thanks, my mum will have dd. Dh is coming home from work to take me as the hospital is miles away. I dont mind being checked I just dont want to stay in. The midwife said I might have to stay in until the end of my pregnancy in 4 months time!

Bah, that sounds unlikely - silly midwife, scaring you possibly/probably unnecessarily. Unless yo're leaking protein all over the place, I would think they would simply keep you in and adjust your meds until they're happy with the results, then release you - thats what happened to me a week after dd1 was born (she wasn't with me at the time, and I wasn't expecting to be admitted - I nearly had hysterics: thankfully, they let her come in and be with me, immediately).

I'm so glad your Mum is around, and dh coming...had visions of you being stuck alone in a new place But still, really rough - so upsetting. When are you going in?

lucy5 · 27/07/2006 14:15

Thanks, i'm just waiting for dh now, i suppose they'll run tests etc and then i'll know whats going on. I think because I had to be so insistent with the midwife that I wasn't going to be admitted there and then, it just spooked me.

Understandably. Good luck, Lucy, let us know when you can!

lucy5 · 27/07/2006 14:37

Thanks Elibean, dh is home now, so we will be going soon. Will let you know, hopefully tonight!

Lucy, imagine you are still in hospital...hope that bp behaves so you can come home soon. xxx

lucy5 · 28/07/2006 18:44

Well i'm back and i've been prodded and poked, scanned, monitored etc etc. But I am pleased to say that the baby is fine and my blood pressure has come down. I've got to have daily monitoring but for now, i'm home.

Hurrah! Good for you, did they change your meds at all? Or just let you rest?!

lucy5 · 28/07/2006 18:53

Let me rest and upped the dosage, only by half a tablet, so hopefully won't feel any more side effects.

Good news, lucy Seems like you and SenoraP are not having the easiest time with Spanish midwives

lucy5 · 28/07/2006 18:59

You said it Marthamoo, it is like stepping back in time sometimes. They can be very matronly but they also so kiss you alot and rub your arms.

! My best friend lived in Madrid for a year, she never told me about the kissy midwives but she did have a few mixed experiences with the local hospital

I'm glad it only took half a tablet Lucy, fingers crossed yo'ure ok now for the next twenty weeks. I'm 21 weeks today, and know my own bp (which has been fine for the second trimester) will start to creep up again in a few weeks time...trying not to think about meds.

Rest as much as you can, given dd and life generally!
