I've posted in multiples but also here if that's ok.

Hello!

I've had some early scans due to pain, and 2 weeks ago I had pregnancy of unknown location, 6 days ago there was a small gestational sac and today a sac with a baby and HB inside Grin

The sonographer also measured another sac next door, but said it was a lot smaller and she'd guess it was not an ongoing twin pregnancy.

However, a week ago I had an empty sac and today a fetus with HB could be seen so I know it can be just a difference in days for development.

I'm extremely grateful for one baby, I'm just wanting to hear stories of similar things happening to you ladies so I can prepare myself at the 12/40 scan.

Thanks Thanks

I had two babies, but one stopped growing at 9 weeks. Such pregnancies are very common, but only really starting to be noticed due to improvements in early scanning techniques. If it happens before 15 weeks it will not affect the other baby in any way.

Good luck with your one little baby.

From a harsh realism point of view, you have a much higher chance of delivering a healthy baby if you just have the one. Multiple pregnancies are a much higher risk, though I know many of us go gooey over the idea of twins.

It depends whether there was just an empty sac or whether there was a fetal pole too. And how many days/weeks you were.
I had a scan at 5+5 to show 2 sacs. At 6+0 there were 2 sacs, one bigger than the other and 2 fetal poles.
At 6+2 there was a heartbeat in one sac but not the smaller one.
At 6+6 there were 2 heartbeats and I went on to have twins.
I would say if your scan was over 7 weeks and there wasn't a second heartbeat it is unlikely there will be 2 at a 12 week scan.
Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

I had my scan n it shows I am 5+1 which I thought I was more than that. My scan states that my yolk sac is present my gestation sac is also present and embryo is present but fetal heart action is absent. I am been told to come in for another scan. I don't know what I have to do now because I am really worriedSad

delphi13 · 13/01/2014 16:46

Had this too and the smaller sac had disappeared altogether by the next scan that I had done at 10 weeks.

It's possible there will be a heartbeat the next time but not particularly likely.

This pregnancy was one of twins but one had stopped growing at 10 weeks I had an early scan at 6 weeks that is where they told me I was expecting twins but it was at the 12 week scan that one had died they call it the vanishing twin! I'm just greatful for the one that is alive n growing well xx

2014newme · 13/01/2014 16:55

Vanishing twin syndrome is quite common I am afraid.

LalaDipsey · 13/01/2014 18:44

I was told there is only a 50% chance of both twins still having heartbeats at the 12 week scan. Vanishing twin is pretty common.
Brastic - please don't worry that's fab news if there's a yolk sac. You would be extremely unlikely to see a heartbeat under 6 weeks - with dd I saw it at 6+3 and with the twins as per below . When are you being scanned again?

neversleepagain · 13/01/2014 18:56

This is the downside to technology unfortunately. Being blissfully unaware is sometimes better.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

I have ovarian cysts causing pain and this is why I've been scanned early, otherwise I'm actually against frequent scanning as I feel it can cause more anxiety than reassurance in some cases.

I'm keeping an open mind, I'm a midwife too so know stuff it just goes to mush when its yourself Grin

Just wondering the same thing this was done at 5 weeks they are saying twins the big black hole is a bleed does anyone have any positive stories I have another scan in two weeks

Two sacs but one heartbeat? Experiences please :-)
Las1983 · 10/03/2021 20:48

And what happened in the second scan ? Did u have twins?

Las1983 · 10/03/2021 20:50

Same story with me, did you had twins?!!

Ellie2022 · 19/02/2022 18:33

Hi all, so I went for an early scan 2 weeks ago, it was too early to see anything just 1 gestational sac, so they rescheduled me and I went today. Now I have two gestational sacs and 1 baby with a flickering heartbeat!

I really don’t know what to think!

why did I only have 1 sac in the beginning and now two? Both sacs look the same size! The lady said if it was twins the other baby would of developed at the same rate as the other baby so it’s not likely there’s twins in there, but I have read so many different things about people going back and a second baby being there! I am over the moon baby is healthy I just can’t get this 2nd sac out of my mind!

Zoe2022 · 12/04/2022 13:52

Hiya! So I had a scan at 5 weeks and there was 1 sack went for a scan last week at 7 weeks and I no have two sacs. Both have babies inside…. Only one heartbeat could be detected though, the second sac is a lot smaller and no heartbeat. She’s put me in for another 2 weeks to see if there is a heartbeat. Apparently if it’s too early you can’t see both as they could be hiding :)

Mtbakmab2024 · 25/09/2023 15:20

Hi all,

I had an early scan due to a hunch and a small infection. At 6 weeks pregnant I had one heart beat and two further sacs that apparently were “empty” and the sonographer said they were not viable pregnancies.

The doctor however said it was too early to tell… does anyone have experience with seeing one heartbeat and a pole at 6 weeks and then the other sac(s) developing later on?

C32 · 20/11/2024 20:24

So had my 9 week and 2 days scan and another sac appeared it's apparently under 6 weeks the smaller sac ? Bit confused x
