How much weight did you gain during pregnancy?

I'm 37 weeks and currently 37lbs heavier than before I fell pregnant. I was told that I shouldn't gain more than a maximum of 35lbs during this pregnancy but i've found it really hard to keep tabs on my weight. Christmas hasn't helped - 4lb weight gain that week Blush. How have other Mumsnetters fared?

I'm 37 weeks. At 35 weeks I'd put on 11lb/5kg. I haven't weighed myself since but I expect to have put on a bit of weight as I've been resting more and eating better.

I have really struggled to eat this pregnancy, first morning sickness, then rib pain and now heartburn.

I put on around 2.5 stone now have a 1.5 stone to lose 11 weeks later Blush

35 lb with ds, but mostly water retention as it was 40 degrees when he was born.
28 lbs with dd, but had lost 21 by the time I left hospital.
Was not overweight to begin with and doctor did I not comment on gain.

I put on 15lb in total, 8lb 2 of that was DS.

Lioninthesun · 12/01/2014 09:46

I put on just over 3st. DD was 10Ib 1oz though and I lost all the extra (plus a lot more) while breast feeding for 11months. I was back up to my usual 9st after about 2yrs thankfully.

First time round I put on 2 stone and really struggled to shift it afterwards. I was overweight to begin with but it took me 2 years to get back to my starting weight. I really indulged in being pregnant and ate chocolate like it was going out of fashion.

I'm nearly 33 weeks now and this time I've been much more sensible and stuck to normal sized portions, ignored the chocolate although I have a weakness for biscuits. I've not exercised much tbh (i took up running to shift my weight last time and ran regularly until 13 weeks ) as I had terrible spd last pregnancy and I wasn't keen to aggravate it again.

So far I've put on 11 lbs and used a weight calculator to make sure I've put enough on to be healthy but not too much.

First pregnancy - far too much. And I hadn't lost any of it when I got pregnant with DS2. However - with DS2 I gained half a kilo in total (around 1lb). My whole body shape changed to look more pregnant than fat and I lost over 5kg when he was born. Kick started me into healthy eating and regular exercise and I lost another 20 kg over that year :)

How much weight you put on isn't the only thing to consider, it depends if you were very slim or overweight to start with, a weight gain of 1.5 to 2 stone would be about right for a slim woman but somebody overweight could be losing excess fat whilst eating a healthy diet and seemingly gain little weight.
11 or 12 lbs seems very low if you were slim with no extra fat to start with, just the weight of the baby, the placenta and amniotic fluid would account for that and then there is the added weight of increased blood volume, extra fluid, increased muscle around the womb, breast growth and fat stored for breast feeding which can add about another stone in total.

Pregnancy is the only time I lose weight! Both times I have had no appetite and eat badly. I'm a few pounds lighter now than when I got my bfp. I'm 29 weeks.

My friend is pg with twins (also 29 weeks) and has only put on 7lb and the twins are 3lb each!

EeyoreIsh · 12/01/2014 10:15

Yes buskers I had a bmi of 23 before getting pregnant, so putting on 11lb is fine. If my bmi was lower I would have expected to put on more.

I am 22 weeks and have already put on a stone :( I had an awful cold and completely stopped exercising - haven't done a thing since October.

I have been hungry and eating a lot more throughout my pregnancy (and had no morning sickness at all). Going to a pregnancy exercise class soon but I am worried that I just cannot stop eating!!!

floppops · 14/01/2014 17:36

With my first I put on 49 lbs!! 21lbs came off the day I had her though and she was only 7lbs. Easy enough to lose another 7lbs but then a bit of a struggle. Ended up 3 years later only 3lbs heavier than pre pregnancy weight before getting pregnant again. Am at 31 weeks now and have put on 28lbs. Hoping to keep it under 35lbs but it's hard at the end when it's very tiring to walk for long.
Totally fed up of being told how huge I am on a daily basis.

MirandaWest · 14/01/2014 17:38

I put on about 4.5 stone with each DC. About 60lb I think.
