Food poisoning - need reassurance

I ate something tonight that I don't think has agreed with me. I'm 5 + 2 weeks. I'm now terrified I've given the baby food poisoning and am going to cause a mc or severe disabilities when it's born.

I'm not running to the toilet yet, but I'm very bloated and heartburn.

I had food poisoning at 16 weeks (thanks Mexican restaurant and your reheated rice!), and spent three days in the bathroom. Everything was fine for me, and that baby is now three months old.

Make sure you keep hydrated, and eat what you can - bananas were good (I checked, you can't overdose on bananas). I saw my GP in the third day, and he wasn't really concerned. Hope you feel better soon!

I had food poisoning when I was 12 weeks pregnant with DS. Couldn't keep anything down for about 2 days. He is a lovely (most of the time) 10 year old now :)

I had food poisoning at about 11 weeks with DS1, thanks to a Chinese takeaway.

I was as sick as a dog for a few days. The doctor told me to sip water and fresh orange juice diluted 50/50. Everything was fine, DS1 is 19 now and 6ft 3, fit, healthy young man.

bloated and heartburn are also normal pregnant symptoms so unless u r sick or hav diarrhoea I wouldnt be too worried.

I bloat up like a balloon as soon as I have my lunch, doesn't matter what I eat. been the same since I was about 6 weeks pg!

It's only specific and rare pathogens like listeria that are a concern for baby. A standard bout of food poisoning wouldn't be much fun for you but is unlikely to cause any harm.

As for bloating and heartburn - welcome to pregnancy!

It's so early the baby isn't even feeding off your placenta yet. I think the only problem with food poisoning while pregnant is that you will feel extra bad. I'm 7weeks today and so far I have had 2 weeks with tonsillitis, 3 days of vomiting and diarrhoea bug and now 1 week of cold/flu. This poor baby and poor me, I feel horrific. It's easy to worry but I promise you a million other mums will have had food poisoning while pregnant with no ill effects on baby.
