Feeling silly but worried about dating scan

DH and I think we are around 10 weeks pregnant. However we can't be sure due to my history of PCOS and not having a cycle pretty much at all for the past year.
At our booking appointment our midwife referred us for an early dating scan on Monday.
Im terrified. I have heard too many horror stories of women going for first scans and being told bad news.
I know it sounds silly but it took so long to conceive with PCOS that im terrified out bubble is going to be burst.
Im wracking. my brains trying to figure out of baby is ok.
With this being our first im extra worried about every cramp or twinge.
Need some soothing words.

I had two early scans - at 5 weeks, then 7 weeks - and I was worried about both of them but it turns out both were amazing. Why won't it go well for you? You have no reason to think it won't at the moment so try to look forward to it :-)

MissSlackPants84 · 11/01/2014 20:58

I think everyone gets nervous about scans. I was a bag of nerves for both my 8 and 12 week. Im sure you will have nothing to worry about x

I got a letter today to tell me my 12 week scan is on Feb 4th and straight away I felt nervous/excited. It is definitely normal to feel anxious.

DontCallMeDaughter · 11/01/2014 21:50

Definitely normal to feel anxious. I did with both of mine.

I try to remind myself that although there are lots of horror stories, the vast majority of scans go fine, so the chances are yours will as well.

If you can afford it, an early scan can be really reassuring and we had one this time round at 7 weeks.

Good luck!!

You can't change a bad outcome by worrying. I know it's easier said than done but just try put it outside your mind until the day. I'm dreading my 12 week scan too if it makes you feel any better

JustDanni · 12/01/2014 09:59

Thanks ladies.
I don't feel like im being so irrational now.
Im still worried that I will get too excited and it will end up all doom and gloom.
But one more sleep until I find out so looks like im just going to have to suck it up.

Hi justdanni. I have my dating scan on Monday too and I am petrified! I had a thread on it the other day and someone replied that the chances of a MMC being discovered at the dating scan is only 1% so the odds are truly in our favour. That made me feel loads better. Everything will be fine I'm sure.
Congrats on your pregnancy and Good luck, let me know how you get on on Monday. Thanks

I felt the same for my dating scan and had to drive 200 miles to get to it (long story)so needless to say I was quite anxious and nervous. I think everyone is as it's the first time you see baby and movement. I just kept telling myself everything will be ok and told bump I was looking forward to seeing him/her. When I walked into scan room, MW asked how everything was, any pains, bleeding and how far I thought I was. As soon as she had the scanner on my abdomen she found baby and I saw it kicking about instantly, that's all I needed to see! I'm sure everything will be fine, keep thinking good thoughts and it'll be fine you'll see :) don't forget to ask for a pic! Let us know how it goes, all the best x

mixi82 · 13/01/2014 14:56

How did scans go ladies?

CarlyKins · 13/01/2014 16:56

Hi JustDanni, I feel your pain! I also have pcos and it's taken me 8 years to get pregnant. Not only that but I actually had no idea I was pregnant until going to a routine appointment and finding out I was 5 months gone. Scary as hell but amazing to actually have been able to conceive. Every little pain or when he goes quiet ect I constantly worry thinking something is wrong because of this so I understand how u feel hun. Best thing is to just take it as it goes, look after yourself and think positive, stress is not good for your baby. (I should really take my own advice) haha. But I wish u all the best for u and ur little one, good luck and remember, think positive I'm sure he/she is fine :) xxx

Thanks again for all of your kind words.
Scan went great although turns out we are only 8 weeks 4 days so a bit more waiting to do.
Saw a lovely strong heartbeat and even a little wiggle. DH had a tear in his eye bless.
Can breath a sigh of relief. At least until the 12 week scan anyway.
It all feels so real now. We are on cloud 9 Grin Grin Grin

Congrats! So happy for you. I had mine today too and everything was perfect and I'm 11+6. Good luck in the rest of your pregnancy.

BetterWithCheese · 13/01/2014 17:48

Glad it went well for you both. I've had two babies and felt very nervous before every scan. It's such a relief when all is well.

mixi82 · 13/01/2014 21:04

Yay!! Really happy for you both and it's great to see the wriggling isn't it!

Eminybob I was dated the same as you for my 12wk scan, 11+6 :)

Seems so long since mine now even though it was only 2 weeks ago....hope times flies by for the rest of my pg!

JustDanni · 13/01/2014 23:15

I honestly didn't expect much movement when I saw that little bean with nubs for limbs and she said that it was my baby.

I didn't even think they moved that early. Great feeling.Smile
