My dh and I have been discussing names for our little one due in Sept. We have both agreed on Scarlett Lily for girl but can't agree on a boys name. He has now come up with (what he thinks is the coolest name on the planet) Scooby!!!!

I was sure he was joking but he's not he is serious!! I can't call a boy Scooby it sounds daft or can I???

Comments please

tell him you'll agree if he changes his by deed poll to Shaggy

Milly1707 · 27/07/2006 13:46

Thankfully our surname is not snax or doo. I like the changing his name to shaggy though, I might suggest it!!!

My sister's boyfriend is known to everyone as Scooby and it seems to suit him down to the ground, but it's a nick-name, a term of endearment if you like. Can't imagine calling him by his real name in fact, but he does have a more regular first name which he can use when he has to.

I'm not sure your little one would thank you for Scooby as a real name, but names are very personal, and it's up to yourselves what you name your baby. Perhaps you could give him a 'proper' name and use Scooby as a term of affection??

dixia · 28/07/2006 17:47

Milly, I think we may well be sharing a dp.

My dp would love the idea of Scooby - he wants Zippy or Dizzy.

Also, very weirdly, Scarlett Lily was our choice of girl's name, but our first was a boy! How odd is that?

Milly1707 · 29/07/2006 09:18

Okay, i agree very spooky!!!

He has spotted this thread (I didn't know he even knew about Mumsnet) and said look someone else wants to call their son Scooby so I'm not the only one. I didn't have teh heart to tell him the thread was started by me!!!

Just told dp who said "Scooby? Hmm, that's not a bad name, is it?"

[anger]

It's seems to me to be a Man Of A Certain Age Trying To Be Cool, thing.
