12 week scan

Hi I'm a first time mummy to be. I had an early scan at 8ish weeks as I was showing some signs of bleeding but all thankfully ok.
Had first midwife appointment on 3rd January and she said I had to wait for a letter from hospital for my scan date. I know that was only just over a week a go but how long does it normally take for the letter to arrive? Also what kind of notice do they give for appointment? Reason I ask is because going by rough dates I was given at my first scan I should be roughly 12 weeks next week. As much as I'm itching to tell people I really don't want to until scan just to make sure all is ok but I'm going to have to tell my employer soon!
Thank you :)

Salter call your hospital (you should have been given some contact numbers at your booking appointment) and tell them you haven't received your letter about your dating scan and you are 12 weeks next week. It needs to be done roughly between 11 and 13 weeks so they really should have contacted you by now. Hopefully you'll get booked in and then you can start sharing the exciting news!

I am nearly 9 weeks and still waiting for my booking appt but my 12 week scan letter arrived this morning!

Every hospital has a different policy and different systems, so you're probably best contacting the hospital directly.

You don't have to tell your employer right away (although as soon as they know they can carry out risk assessments etc). I didn't tell my employer until after my 20 week scan.

Thank you for your replies. I will get in contact with the hospital just to make sure then :)

Hi salter, we've had a very similar experience so far! I also had an early scan at 8 weeks (due to bleeding) but thankfully all was ok! My booking in appointment was in Jan 3rd too and I'm now nearly 12 weeks. I received my scan letter from the hospital yesterday and I'm booked in for this coming Friday when I'll be nearly 13 weeks. I'd definitely give them a ring if I were you just to double check. Congratulations by the way, glad all was ok at your early scan too.

Glad all was ok with you too Em. Thank you, if I still have no letter Monday then will defiantly contact the hospital. Congratulations to you too, hope all goes well.
