Hi

Just got my delivery of newborn nappies, its days they fit 4lb to 11lb babies (size 1)- thy look a lot bigger than I expected. Would anyone think I should buy a small pack of the tiny baby ones just incase? (I have no idea how big my baby will be!!!)

Trying to be organised without being ridiculous :-)

It's extremely unlikely that your baby will be less than 5lb so you'll be fine Smile

Newborn size will be fine unless you think you are having a very tiny baby

crazykat · 11/01/2014 09:36

They'll be fine. My eldest was in 5lb clothes and first size nappies were still okay. If they are too big you can always get tiny baby ones then instead getting them now and not using them.

I would add don't buy too many! They grow like buggery, and your babe may be bigger to start with than you expect!
(Looking at you DS)

Are you expecting baby to be less than 4lb?

jaykay987 · 11/01/2014 09:55

How many newborn nappies do you think is reasonable to buy pre birth?

I think I had three smallish packs. Different brands and not all in the smallest size.
Don't worry, someone will be able to get you some more Smile

First size is fine. In the unlikely event they are too big, yourbaby would probably be in special care where some nappies would be provided till you got your own. I had an 8lb baby. I used three packs of size one and then moved up to the next size.

ilovepowerhoop · 11/01/2014 10:08

the nappy sizes all overlap so size 1 is from 4-11lbs but size 2 is from 6-13lbs so I would have 2 or 3 packs of size 1 and then a few in size 2 as well.

Both my children were just under 8lbs when born so theoretically could have gone straight into size 2 nappies.

Thanks everyone, I've 2 packs of size 1- works out about 9/10 days worth judging by how many nappies most ppl tell me I'll get through :-)

how many are in a pack? I went through loads in the first couple of weeks as they tend to poo a lot and need a change every time, so several times a day. As they get older they tend to poo a bit less so need fewer changes.

We bought 250 nappies, mostly size one and a couple of pack in size two. I got mostly Huggies as we had various vouchers. Our babies were 5lb at birth. They lasted us 15 days.

Most newborn nappies are a bit big for newborns, but this stage only lasts a short while. Fold the nappies downwards in the front to make room for the cord whilethat is on and that should do it. You only need to buy prem size if you are expecting an actual premature baby or abnormally grown small one.
