Hi everyone. Am currently 9 weeks pg and me and DH are thinking of a last holiday before baby's arrival in August.

Am I mad?

Obvious everyone feels differently, but when would be a good idea to go in everyone's experience? I was thinking around 16-24 weeks when hopefully I'll be blooming (lol, certainly am not now!).

Anything else to take into consideration?

Not mad at all. I'm 7 weeks and we're currently planning our travel schedule! I have 3 work trip abroad in the next few months too.

Make sure you have travel insurance.
And enjoy!

I'm planning a big holiday at around the same time as we'll be toning down our holls for a couple of years.
Bear in mind that there will be a lot of vaccinations you can't have when pregnant so check in advance whether any are needed for where you are planning to go.
Also, you will need to be extra careful around food so may end up with self catering or eating the same basic meal every day.
There's no reason it can't be a great holiday, as long as you are realistic about your expectations (depending on what you like of course- a diving holiday won't be much copWink)

I went on holiday at 16 and 25 weeks pregnant and had no problems.

No your not mad!! Me and my partner went to Iceland for 5 days in November when I was 19 weeks and it was the perfect time to go in my opinion... I couldn't have managed it any earlier than that as I was so tired in the beginning of my pregnancy!

Foxsticks · 10/01/2014 17:37

Not mad at all! We did the same, we waited till after my 20 week scan so we knew all was well and went to Kafalonia. It was one of the best holidays I've had, the hotel was brilliant and really looked after us! We stayed here

Definitely a good idea we had booked a holiday in Scotland and when found out I was pregnant we booked a trip to California for when I was about 18 weeks, flying longhair was fine, just wore the dvt socks etc. in fact I was a lot less jet lagged without the drinking in the lounge before the flight!!

I'm 25+3 and just back from a few days in Europe. It was great - had to wear a support belt as I've got worsening PGP, but aside from that it was no different to other trips (minus booze!).

Many major insurers cover pregnancy as standard, so that's not an issue. And at that point, you shouldn't need any sort of 'fit to fly' proof. Go for it Smile

We had a lovely week in Turkey when I was 16 weeks. We purposely chose to go somewhere lovely that we had been to before, to maximise the relaxation and minimise any stress Smile

It was very special and romantic. Do it!

We went to Greece when I was 25 weeks pregnant. Apart from heat rash on my bump, we had a wonderful holiday and look back on it fondly.

Mabelandrose · 10/01/2014 18:48

I'm planning a so called baby moon (providing everything progresses as planned).

Has anyone been on a luxury beach break while pregnant. I'm not necessarily worried about a long haul flight providing the medical care is ok. Any hotel recommendations welcome. We would probably go in May.

Foxsticks · 10/01/2014 19:22

We nearly went to the Maldives Mabel but the travel agent pointed out we might not want to have to take sea planes or speed boats if we did need medical help. Which is why we opted for Kephalonia in the end.

Mabelandrose · 10/01/2014 20:16

I was thinking about the Maldives but I had the same concerns about transfer in an emergency. This is such a precious baby (aren't they all) I thinking will end up bottling it with a long haul holiday.

Greece is lovely though. Maybe I will focus my attention to Europe.

Foxsticks · 10/01/2014 20:31

We were the same, so tempted by beautiful islands but bottled it in the end and went for a fab hotel in Europe!

Foxsticks · 10/01/2014 20:32

Congratulations to everyone by the way Smile

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 10/01/2014 20:58

If you want mainland but similar to Maldives, try the coast of Kenya or Mozambique - obviously not without their issues if you did need medical attention but at least you wouldn't need a seaplane!
