Second Pregnancy, when did you tell work? And how did you manage with first baby?

I am second time pregnant and already showing at 7 weeks.
I also feel very tired with my 15 month old toddler and working fulltime. How did you manage? Were you in similar situation?

Did not tell work, but feel I have to be so creative and wear very loose clothes, as I really wanted to have the first scan and make sure everything is OK before I announce anything. With first pregnancy I did not really show till 20 weeks...

When did you tell work?

I didnt tell work as i'm a stay at home mum but did tell a few close friends i knew i could trust to keep it quiet so they were able to help run after my DS at groups while i sat in a corner feeling nauseous.

Can you tell just the hr department or your manager but ask them to keep it quiet until after your scan? Obviously it depends on your company what they are like.

Regarding clothes, scarves are good. You may notice it but a lot of others wont, and if they are rude enough to say anything then you 'just ate a bit too much over christmas'. Avoid anything with an empire line.

I told my manger at 5 weeks because I was throwing up all the time, I felt like I needed them to know why I was so green and miserable lol I asked them to keep it quite until my scan which they did, they technically are not allowed to say any thing if u ask them to keep it confidential

I am currently 10 weeks with DC2 and I really don't want to tell work until after my scan either. I still have another 2.5 weeks at work until my scan.

I wear a shirt and fleece (uniform) which is okay as the fleece gives me a bit of room to hide, but when I get a bit hot I am paranoid to take my fleece off as I feel you can see my bump under fitted shirt. When I'm at home in my leggings and vest you can very much see my bump, I am much bigger now than I was with DD.

I would say don't feel pressured to tell work early because you feel like you're showing early...wait it out until your scan (assuming you feel relatively well within yourself) and just keep on with the loose clothing. I also second scarves for covering up a bit.

In regards to tiredness, it is so much harder second time round already having a little one to look after...and my DD is 3.

Anyway I'll let you know how my 'hiding' goes and if I can make it to the 24th! Grin

I gets harder as you go on. Sorry. I have a 13 month old, at work full time and 28 weeks pregnant. Told work just before I came back off mat leave so around 7/8 weeks, but am friendly with my line manager, so it wasn't really a big deal.

I am permanently exhausted and sore. Much worse than the first time. I could sleep for a week! I feel guilty as I can't be as active with DD as id like eg even carrying her upstairs is getting hard now. I'm relying on DH a lot for help around the house - ie everything lol.

God knows how I'll cope at 36 weeks plus. It will be worth it though! Grin

Oh forgot to say with DD1 I told work at 7 weeks. But having since experienced a miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy I am extremely wary and don't have the happy/excited (almost naive I suppose) attitude that I had then. Not saying happy excited pregnant people are naive by the way, just mean that it never even crossed my mind in my first pregnancy that something might go wrong! So it's very different for me this time.

Hi! I am 29 weeks and have a 2.5 year old and work full time :c) I was really freaking out at the thought of another baby and how I would cope but tbh so far I have not been too tired etc and have coped not bad. I am still a little nervous about how I will cope with dd and a baby but tell myself no point stressing bout it now :c) I am potty training dd at the mo too but it's not going too good so far lol - my fault as between work pregnancy and general housework I am not putting it first.
I was also concerned about telling my work and planned to tell after first scan, in the end I told my manager a couple weeks before first scan as needed time off and she was fine, I asked for it to be kept quiet till after scan and everything at work has gone fine.
Congratulations - btw it took a good 20 weeks and a big bump before I really got my head around being pregnant and then another few weeks on top to process the fact that at end of pregnancy I would have a baby lol

I'm 10 weeks and have a boy turning 1 on Saturday! I haven't told my head teacher but my head of dept and technician know (science teacher so need to let them know so that I can avoid any experiments if needs be). Not telling my head teacher until after I've had my scan which is on the 20th - luckily it's before I start work that day so haven't had to get time off. I felt pressurised into telling work early the last time (6 weeks) as I was the 3rd in a dept of 4 to get pregnant in the same school year!!!

I think I'm right in saying you don't legally need to tell them until 25wks anyway so wait until you're comfortable.

I am definitely more tired this time but I'm lucky in that I don't suffer from sickness/nausea so it's been easy to hide. Also, not showing yet but clothes are beginning to become tighter - especially once I'm home from work. I do get sciatica though and that started at 6wks as apposed to 8wks last time but is manageable if I don't make sudden movements.

Thanks everyone, reassuring to know I am not alone in feeling more tired second time around. It also does not help dd does not sleep through the night and she used to be a much better sleeper. Hope things will improve after first trimester. Have not said anything yet. Hope I manage to hide it till I have first scan...
