TMI Bleeding in pregnancy

Am 6 weeks pregnant (ish) and have just had an amount of bloody brown discharge when I went to the toilet. Do I need to see someone about this urgently or should I wait a while?

You'd think I'd know - this is DC3!

Bleeding a little in early pregnancy can be absolutely fine but may be worth asking your GP/EPAU. If it is accompanied by severe pain and/or if the bleeding increases and is bright red you should seek medical advice

Hope all is well x

I have born discharge at 7 weeks and 10 weeks and baby was fine on both occasions.

Is it just staining in your underwear? Or when you wipe?

Any pains or cramping??

Finding old, dried brown blood is very common in early pregnancy and is usually discarded blood from when implantation took place. In my experience midwives/GP are not too concerned unless the bleeding turns fresh and red, gets heavier and is associated with cramps.

It can't hurt to ring your EPU for advice - mine were always very reassuring. Depending on how things are and based on their opinions they may invite you for an early scan or they may just tell you to monitor things over the next few days.

My first sentence was supposed to say "I had brown discharge..."
I hate auto correct!! Smile

Staining and when I wipe with increasing pain (but still only a dull ache). Also have a headache Sad

I specifically asked my doctor what i should do about bleeding when i went to see her (at about 5 weeks). She said a small about of spotting is quite common and nothing to worry about, but to always make an app to see her if i ever had bleeding. That's what i would do.

I had a general ache too hedgehog - a very low down, persistent ache. The problem is that aches and pains like this are normal in early pregnancy too, that's what makes everything so much harder. You just don't know if what's happening is 'normal' or not. My aching was more prominent during my bleeding at 7 weeks as opposed to my 10 week episode.

Have you got any panty liners sanitary towels in the house? It might help to use one and monitor things over the next few hours? If you aren't actually leaking blood, I.e it only happens upon wiping and isn't getting heavier then I would lean to it being a positive sign.

With my episodes I was having to use panty liners and I was losing blood as opposed to it being just on wiping, in that there were little brown lumps coming out, brown stringy bits etc - not the nicest - but like I said, baby was fine on both occasions.

With my 7 week bleed I was scanned the following day, as arranged by my GP but following my 10 week bleed I wasn't scanned for 5 days. It was hard waiting those 5 days but as the bleeding was minimal, wasn't fresh blood and I wasn't in pain, the midwives did not think it was anything to worry about.
