Did you poo during childbirth? Sorry TMI time ladies.....

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and am scared at the prospect of childbirth, but see it as one last challenge before I meet my baby! I've heard stories about pooing during labour? This terrifies me! How embarrassing it's making me worry about my partner being there!

You really won't care when the time comes!

Haha I have this conversation with my DP all the time! I want a water birth and I joke with him that he'll have to get a fishing net to scoop out. He isn't bothered, I know he will laugh at me afterwards and to be honest, I probably will!

I think it's just one of those things and another joy of being pregnant.

Is it mentioned or do the midwives just get rid? Does it smell? What if it gets onto baby?!!!

My mom was outraged that you don't get an enema when labour starts and has generously offered to do it for me.

I don't think so, but I've heard most do and midwives jut clear it up and get on with it.

Main reason why I was never gonna have a curry to bring labour on!

I don't want to alarm you further, but I agree with Citygirl - at the point where you may or may not poo, whether you do or don't won't register with you at all. Labour is a completely overwhelming full body and mind transformative experience. A little bit of poo in the face of that - meh. Honestly, don't worry. If you do, the midwives will just clear it up along with all the other bodily fluids.

it is honestly the LEASt of your thoughts , when I gave birth I seemed to be on layers of sheets and is anything comes out then they just whip it away - no one mentions, it doesn't smell, its nowhere near baby -

I did. I thought 'what's that smell?" for about a nanosecond, then got on with the job in hand. DH said they just wiped it up and also got on with he labour.

I gave birth in front of 9 people as it was a rare birth and I'm PANFULLY shy. Pooing was he least of my worries

I was a bit paranoid about this when I first got pregnant but thinking of all the other things that can go wrong in delivery, a bit of poo is the least of my worries! I'd rather crap for Britain than tear!

I had a waterbirth. The midwife guessed had chilli for dinner the night before. Kidney beans float! Who knew?

I needed to poo when I was in the early stages of labour so I went early on before I got to the sore bit. But during my 3 births I did not poo. But honestly you don't care. You could shit rainbows and not bother in the least…you just want whatever is in there, OUT!

Some women have a 'clear out' of their bowels before they go into labor, it can be a sign that birth is near, I definitely did, but as others said you won't care when the then comes.

Time comes, even.

I had a water-birth with DC1 (dd) and think it's a good way of this mattering even less. They did provide DH with a little sieve for scooping duties I remember

My friend has four DC and is really proud of the fact that she didn't poo in labour. I was her birth partner. She pooed every time. She just didn't notice. The midwives are discreet. Of course it smells and realistically, most women poo. I was terrified of it and wouldn't accept I wouldn't care. I didn't though. As it was, I didn't poo but there came a point where I'd have fellated John McCririck whilst dressed as a clown in front of my entire family if it would have helped.

I have no idea. Labour is a messy event so they're always changing your bed mat.

Agree you will not care. I am overdue with dc 3 now.......arrrrrggggh. Pooped in pool with other two dc. Sieve was ready for purpose, dh says def noticed with dc 1, I didn't have a clue..... But with dc2 I could have sworn I felt it but he said he didn't notice, maybe midwife was quick with sieve! Now I am getting periody pain and have had a few trips to loo lately, the clear out thing they talk about but never happened with other two, labour came on too quick, so am hopeful things maybe starting up and maybe I won't poo this time! But the way I feel now I just want baby out! Poo or no poo along with.

Yes. Most people do. I also threw up all over DH minutes after giving birth. Honestly, you won't care!
