Do I need one? I'm 37 weeks and just starting to pack my hospital bag. Don't live near good shops, could I just buy a cheap stretchy sports bra from Sainsburys? Thanks

Our hospital advises to take two in if planning on breast feeding. Apparently 37 weeks is a good time to go and get measured and you need to make sure there's enough room to slide your hand into the cup so that there'll be enough room when boobs go bigger.

Do you have a debenhams nearby? I've got both my preggo bras from there and they're really comfy

As long as you can get your boob out then it doesn't have to be a nursing bra, but generally it's easier to be able to unclip the cups, at least at first.

Oh, and something like a sports bra would be difficult as they tend to be cut higher, you need something cut low across the breast otherwise it'll be a nightmare trying to feed subtly.

thanks for the replies. Knew I'd forget something when we went shopping and this is one thing it's best not to get online! Have found a giant tesco near us which may do them

I found that I grew so much when dc1 was born that none of the bras I bought beforehand fitted. and then I shrunk quite a lot within a week of the birth. so for dc2 I didn't bother trying to buy a proper bra for the first few days; instead I found the following very useful:
