Chest infection hell - please help!

I'm at the end of my tether. I've had a chest infection for nearly 2 months now, had to go into hospital because of it on Friday. Not only is it really worrying me because I don't want to harm Gandalf (nickname only, though the husband is telling everyone that's what he's going to be called...), it's also keeping me and the husband up at night and means I can't do any exercise.

I'm already steaming, drinking lots of hot drinks, including lemon, ginger and honey, using olbas oil, vics, sleeping slightly upright and getting some fresh air every day. But nothing's coming up. Doctors couldn't give me anything because of allergies to penicillin and aspirin.

I'm 23 weeks, I can't bear another 16 like this, please send suggestions for help, no matter how quirky. I'm willing to stand on my head naked in church if it'll help.

Thanks!

Surely going to your GP and telling him this, they will help? I've just Recovered from a 4 week chest infection and it really is hell. I suffer from asthma so breathing was hard, but my brown inhaler really helped. Are you having trouble breathing? Is it just your chest or do you still have other flu like symptoms?

I'm really sorry to hear this. I'm nearly 18 weeks pregnant and started with a cold and sore throat last Friday which since yesterday seems to have gone on my chest too. My chest is so sore and I'm constantly swallowing awful stuff. I saw my gp today but she didn't prescribe anything and said to do the same as what you're doing, empty of rest and fluids. I too am worried being pregnant. Sorry I can't be of much help. Can I ask if you've tried any antibiotics or what happened at hospital? So many things about at the moment and at this time of year. I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry it's been a few days, I had to just bed down and get bl**dy better. I've seen my GP loads, she prescribed Amoxycillin but it gave me the runs and a rash so no more penicillin for me. I did have trouble breathing, severe trouble, which is why I went into hospital last week. They did a lot of blood tests which showed a post flu chest infection, which I found out today was pneumonia. (Saw my GP for a check up and she had notes from hospital) They also did an X-Ray to check for a blood clot, which made me very distressed as they don't use lead any more but the nurses hadn't known that so it came as a surprise.

They didn't give me anything else because of my previous reaction and I didn't want IV antibiotics because of risk to the little one, who I feel has been through such a rough time already.

Sorry to hear you've been sick too mrsm22. What has helped me I think, in the last two days, has been religiously steaming for as long as possible 3 times a day, at least twice with olbas oil in it, taking loads of slow release vitamin C, drinking hot water with half a lemon squeezed in and manuka honey, or just honey, eating well, and resting lots. I am feeling much better, thank God. Hang in there.

Can you have steroids? I was prescribed prednisolone (not sure if spelt correctly) at around 18 weeks and it cleared mine up
