Scan..what would you do?

Had my 20 week scan just before Xmas and baby was lying wrong so they couldn't see her heart properly. Gave me another appointment for this morning and once again, she was lying face down so they still couldn't see.

The sonographer said if it was her baby she wouldn't leave without knowing the heart was ok so suggested I have some caffeine and a jump about and she'd try again in 15 minutes.

Still the same. She sent us back to the waiting room whilst writing a report and then the little madam flipped over and kicked. I told her this when she handed my notes back but she totally dismissed me and said I'd have to go private as they wouldn't offer me a further scan and they would check her heart when she was born.

So...loving the NHS rudeness today. I go over and above to help my patients out, guess I'm naive to think that others don't.

Would you go ahead and pay for a private scan to check her heart? I have no reason to think that there would be anything wrong.

Well...MW was lovely and got straight onto ante natal clinic who flatly refused a further scan! Grrr.

MW has said that she will make something up when she starts measuring from 28 weeks so she will get me in that way. Crazy system.

Also, found out that because I have a BMI of 30 I can't deliver in the midwife led birthing unit at the hospital...but I can have a home birth!!! I worry about our health system!

PALs and put in a formal complaint, they are being totally unreasonable.

DD1 was small for dates, we had loads of extra scans, no bother.

Hi Tomkat :-)
I'd talk to your midwife and insist that she got you another scan. Maybe turn on the waterworks a bit and given your history they may relent.
If not, I'd have the private scan, just incase something was wrong, doctors would be aware of it before baby arrives and can sort healthcare in advance of delivery xx

That's totally outrageous. I had about 8 scans in total

Complain and insist on another one. Jesus. The sonographer is clearly in the wrong job.

I think they should def be able to scan you again if you speak to your mw gp or consultant. Having said that I guess the thing to remember is that only 50%of cardiac problems are picked up on anomaly scan so even a normal one is never a guarantee.

I would be pushing for another scan, on the nhs !! they can scan as much as they need too, i had around 10-12 scans with baby number 5 due to a low placenta, him being small and low fluid, in the final days of pregnancy they checked him every 3 days !! he was fine btw :)
