Hi all,
I have just found out I am about 6 weeks pregnant which is really exciting, but ever since I have been having what feels like mild period pains and strange aches on each side of my abdomen. This is my first pregnancy so not sure what's normal.
Yesterday the ache was really low and hurt alot so called 111, who made me an app at local walk in centre. Doc ruled out infections and basically said go home, relax and couldn't tell me if what I am feeling is normal or not. Have read some threads where people say this is ok but none of the pregnancy info I have found mentions this as early symptoms...so I am hugely confused! Can any1 relate to this or offer me advise?

I used to have some aches and pain in my lower abdomen during the pregnancy. I remember during 6-7 weeks it was at times quite a lot ... But everything was ok and there was nothing to worry about. I just took lot of rest if I found it difficult and relaxed as much as I could. My child is running around now so I think it was normal Smile

Thanks that is reassuring to know.

It's normal - remember your uterus is stretching lots at the moment and I'm sure that in percentage terms your uterus stretches more in the first 12 weeks than any other point.

I'm about 6 weeks pregnant with DC2 and am definitely achey painy and was last time too.

I had some pain at 14 weeks and went to a and e. The way I had it described was your wombs sitting in like a muscle hammock so as baby gets heavier the muscles have to stretch to hold it and that stretching can cause some discomfort / pain. Always best to get it checked though (as you did) if your worried

Hi, it does sound normal to me. With each of my pregnancies I've felt like I was about to start my period for the first 12 weeks or so. It can be a bit worrying, but it's just hormones and stretching in my experience. Hope all goes well for you!

Thanks everyone. Nice to know I'm not alone, expected some discomfort as I got further along but didn't think it would be this early on!

I had exactly the same problem as you when i was around 6-7 weeks. I had a strong period type pain for days but it got really bad to the point i would double over in pain. I called 111 and was asked to go to the out of hours doctor who did a urine sample which was fine and told me to go home. I had my booking appt with my midwife 2 weeks later and she was not worried and had a scan two weeks after that and everything was fine. If you are really worried see your doctor (or midwife if you have one yet)

Hiya I'm just over 6 weeks and feel exactly the same. It started out as mild period type cramps and I've had some quite scary pain as well right at the bottom of my stomach but that's never lasted more than 10 mins. My mum told me it's just the uterus stretching and making room but I'm off to the docs today anyway just to check everything is ok

Does anyone else also get leg cramping? I have it every single night and I'm struggling to sleep! Soon as I hit my pillow my legs go heavy, numb and tingly and it can last for hours!!

Completely normal. I'm surprised how many people go to the docs/call about these sorts of things. Pregnancy is no fun generally, it's 9 months of aches and pains and feeling not quite yourself!

I don't mean to sound unsympathetic when I say that, but it's a big change that you have to suck up and get on with!

Damnautocorrect · 06/01/2014 09:26

I think the early days are particularly scary or worrying as you can't feel baby yet, and if it's your first you don't know what pains are normal and what's not.

I seem to be getting cramps every where Rogben, sleep is almost impossible for half the night! I went to the doctors because I was advised by a health advisor to Greentshirt, as strong pain in early pregnancy can indicate infection, ectopic pregnancy and a wealth of other things. After getting checked over and hearing people's reassurances I will indeed 'get on with it'.
