newborn nappy & clothing sizes -what size for bigger baby?

my son was 7lb 8oz when born so fit size 1 nappies and newborn clothes. this one looks like he may well be bigger. im wondering whether to put any bigger nappies/clothes in hospital bag.

whats anyone else's experience been with a larger baby and what fits?

i got 0-3 mth clothes for my babies rather than newborn as they werr long and a good size.

ds3 and ds4 needed 3-6mths pretty much straight away.

nappywise i got the ones for 7-11lb? or was it 6-13lb?

Next do baby clothes that are for 'up to one month' which are upto 10lbs, their first size is upto 7.8lbs.

So you could get a few up to one month stuff and then some 0-3months. I would start like that as the 0-3 months may be a little too big to begin with.

Also I would of thought size 1 nappies would be fine. You could include a couple of size 2 but most shops are open all hours if you needed to pick more up.

Do you have a car? You could leave an extra baby bag in the boot with stuff in another size.

My dd was 9lb 7oz and was fine in size one nappies for several weeks. Also in new born clothes and she was very long but quite slim. Hth.

thanks people. i barely had any "newborn" last time, except some m&s "up to 1 month" vest, we just used 0-3. good point re second bag, il leave at home for my husband but will take a couple of bigger vests and a few size 2 nappies!

I was just going to say m&s do up to one month as well.

My boys were all big then we had dd, she was 8lb exactly and the 0-3 mth stuff drowned her, my mum wemt out amd bought some newborn stuff for her, just vests and babygrows which she wore for a few weeks.

My DC3 was 7pd 12 oz but DP had to go and get tiny nappies and prem clothes?? I even made the midwife weigh him again because he looked so tiny and this was after a scan at 36 weeks telling me I was going to have a 10 pounder. DC2 was only 2 oz heavier but went straight into 0-3 months so you can never judge until they come out!

Ds was 9lb, mostly his head, but swamped by 0-3 clothes so we had to go out and buy more newborn sized stuff in the first week. Depends on the shape of your baby I think.

DS was 8lb 6oz and was fine in newborn clothes and size 1 nappies.

I had a 9lb 10 oz baby girl, was totally expecting a 7.5lb baby as my bump was very average so we had only packed smaller items. We did absolutely fine in size 1 nappies for a few weeks. We had a bunch of onesies and vests from John Lewis in newborn size and those were fine (in fact still rather large on her) in the first few weeks. Then again I always fine John Lewis to be slightly generous with sizes. Mamas and Papas and the Gap on the other hand is another story - never buy anything newborn size from them.
I'm betting on a 10lb+ baby this time and won't buy any new newborn size clothing, will just reuse what we saved from first time around. Will still buy 1 pack of size 1 nappies and see how we go from there.

Ds was 11lbs. He wore 0-3 months for the first couple of weeks, but was quickly into 3-6 months.

We still used size 1 nappies to start with. None of the hats I had fit his head though! 39 cm!

DS was 7lb 8oz whilst DD1 was 8lb 11oz. Both wore size 1 nappies and newborn clothes. In fact I tried putting DS in 0-3 months and it was ridiculous.

DD2 however was only 5lb 13oz and wore size 0 nappies and we had to go and buy early baby size for her.

Gosh, it must totally depend how quickly they grow. DD was a large baby (9 15) and only had a few newborn clothes, but they fit her for weeks. A lot of 0-3 were too big for a while. In fact, she was always in the 'right' size clothes for her age over the months; went into 3-6 months at exactly 3 months, etc. The nappies were size 1 - she was in those for ages.

Normal high street newborn clothes will fit even a biggish newborn. Just don't take designer (caramel, Stella McCartney, stuff you'd buy in Liberty etc) babygros as they are really tiny.

I've got one pack of new born nappies and lots of the next size up. I've been handed down enough tiny baby and newborn clothes not to have to worry. I've also been handed down 0-3 months, and I've asked people to only buy me 0-3 sized clothes now.

I've no idea what size my baby will be. It was bang on 50% at the 20 week scan (apart from the head which was off the chart ). I'm tall and slim, DH is tall and chunky. We were both normal size babies.

In my hospital bag I've got one set of tiny baby clothes, one set of newborn. I'm currently 36 weeks. In the next few weeks I'll take the tiny baby stuff out (but leave it in the car) and swop it with 0-3. So I'm covering all bases

Dsis had a full term baby recently that was just 6lb, and even the tiny baby clothes swamped him. The growth scan had predicted he would be bigger...
