Maternity Reflexology

Although I'm not pregnant (thank god at my age!) I have been pregnant 3 times (all different births and experiences) and am now watching my second grandchild grow via my daughter-in-law's pregnancy. This is her first child and she is 18 weeks this week - we already know it's a little boy and I have a copy of the 4D scan to prove it...little Alfie. I'm actively involved giving maternity reflexology treatments to her every week and like all my clients, I will also teach them some natural pain relief acupressure nearer the time. I've used maternity reflexology with many of my clients (since 1998) and it really does help to alleviate some of the aches and pains that go with pregnancy including heartburn etc.

Have any of you tried natural therapies during your pregnancies?

No but I'm considering reflexology from 37 weeks on the advice of my midwife. I developed gestational hypertension at 40 weeks exactly with my first which wasn't much fun.

The midwife suggested reflexology would be worth a go to get me to go slightly earlier this time as I developed GH so late last time. She seemed to think there was a suggestion that it can help?

I figure it sounds like a nice thing to do in the last 3 weeks of pregnancy regardless of whether it works!

Definately hun, if nothing else it will totally relax you both. From 37 weeks it can also start to stimulate the hormonal systems to start the birth process and there are also acupressure points that can start to stimulate womb contraction too - enjoy the experience x
