Sushi when pregnant?

Does anyone know if this is OK? I have NEVER eaten Sushi before, and to be honest, the idea of raw fish disgusts me slightly but I have a chance of a night out shortly before due date and loathe to turn it down

i love sushi and sashimi, but you are not supposed to have raw fish when pregnant, sadly. but depending where you go, you might be able to choose.cooked fish/veggie versions.

is not recommended but do go though - there will def be stuff apart from the actual raw fish itself on offer. I recomend the tempura veg.

Thanks, that was quick!

Have eaten tempura veg before, could happily eat that all evening and wince at the other's fish! (Once found 'naturally occuring' worm in cod I was preparing for fish stew. Urgh!)

lots of things you can eat -
rolls are all rice and seaweed and can be filled with things like avocado, cucumber, tempura veg etc
there will always be some cooked beef and fish on the menu and any number of noodle soups etc -
also some sort of stir fry veg
you should be absolutely fine so enjoy!

Im in Japan and pregnant women (including me) eat it here. But Im not sure if its okay in the UK, because maybe the freshness, way of storing and preparing is different. Id say that if its a good quality restaurant, itd be fine. When I had morning sickness, it was all I could manage to eat, because its not cooked, so doesn`t smell strongly.

I craved this with my current pg. Not the raw fish kind but cooked tuna, prawn, egg & veg varieties. My consultant said these were absolutely fine.
Think this, & the fact i craved fruit salads aswell (ultra healthy food) has given me a large baby
Fancy bringing home a doggy bag for me?

CarolinaMoose · 22/07/2006 07:53

i wouldn't eat any shellfish when pg tbh.

trinityrhino · 22/07/2006 08:03

there will be veggie stuff you can have though surely

hmm, tempura veg!!! Yummy! And the veggie option is lovely with some soy sauce and pickled ginger!
