My throat has never been sore, it feels like a razor blade is slicing it back n forth.

I've got through a jar of honey and two lemons. All strepsils boxes say talk to doctor/pharmacist etc. Can I have any throat lozenges?

Not sure about throat lozenges but you could try hard boiled sweets to suck on. And paracetamol will help take the edge off.

OP, could it be tonsillitis? I have only felt a 'swallowing glass' sensation with tonsillitis.

Maybe phone your midwife or NHS 24 for advice?

Phone the out of hours doc and ask for antibiotics. You can have certain ones during pregnancy- doc will know which.

I remember getting a really sore throat when pregnant with my last dc in the middle of a heat wave! !

Ice poles & paracetamol helped. I also used throat lozangers. Maybe check with a chemist tomorrow. ..It never crossed my mind to check... !

Hope u feel better soon.

You could try non medicinal lozenges, I'm not 100% sure which brands but there are some that don't have anything potentially harmful in pregnancy in them. I might be wrong so do check, but maybe jakemans or halls soothers. Ive definitely had some myself!

missmargot · 26/12/2013 18:54

I think Halls Soothers are fine as they don't have any active ingredients. Gargling with salt water really helps despite tasting disgusting. I hope you feel better soon, this was me a few weeks ago and it was miserable.

How are you today, OP?
