Did your bum return to its normal pre preg size?

I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second baby and could tell by my clothes and general feel of my bum that it was growing. Tonight as I was getting into the bath I made the horrifying mistake of looking at it in the mirror. Shock

I did not recognise my own bum! It looked more like my Mum's bum which even as a child I knew was not the finest specimen.

This did not occur with DD1. I am scared it will never return to its former glory. Please reassure me that all is not lost.

Yes. It will return to normal. Eventually. Mine is smaller than prior to even my first pregnancy (have had 2 babies).

cathpip · 23/12/2013 21:08

It should do, it's not just my bump that grows, my arse doubles in size too. I start at a size 10 and finish at a size 16. I have got back into pre pregnancy clothes twice, I'm sure it can be done after this one. :)

SpawningSalmon · 23/12/2013 21:11

I love you both. (Bonzo wins for greater positivity though)

I currently cannot imagine ever getting this junk back in a bikini.

My dp told me the other day my arse is the size of a small country and my ds (11) has taken to telling me I have thunder thighs .... And I'm only 24 weeks! I'm going they disapear

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 21:25

I wish I hadn't looked at this! My bum is pert but sticks out so I have what can only be described as junk in the trunk. If it gets any bigger, I will be able to use it as a tea tray.

blueshoes · 23/12/2013 21:38

It will go back - just checked with dh - provided you lose the baby weight.

FandangoLaLaLaLaLaLaLaaaa · 23/12/2013 21:43

Ha mine completely disappeared - not in a good way. It kind of slid down the back of my legs. It's come back though as I've built up my muscle tone.

Yummiliscious · 23/12/2013 22:12

Will be watching this thread with interest for the expert opinions of those that have gone through this! This is my first pregnancy and currently 30 weeks and I am convinced my bum is on the increase!

Ilovekittyelise · 23/12/2013 22:22

lol im on my second pregnancy and didnt lose much of the ludicrous weight gain of the first in between. il let you know late 2014 whether plan "done with babies and getting my body back" comes to anything or whether im borrowing clothes from my morbidly obese mil!!

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 23/12/2013 22:24

Mine's smaller than before.

Sleepthief · 23/12/2013 22:29

Eventually, once I put the cakes down Grin

Tomkat79 · 23/12/2013 23:01

I did the same in a changing room last week. BIG mistake. I knew it had increased in size but nothing prepared me for the cellulite.

My DH has just informed me that I'm lush and he sneaks a peek at it my bum and new shape whenever he gets the chance (very rare these days let me tell you). These huge bump hugging knickers of mine can only be removed in the dark. Xmas Wink

Shellywelly1973 · 23/12/2013 23:36

Great thread! I'm giggling out loud here!!

My bum gets flatter with each baby...:-(

Tomkat79 · 24/12/2013 00:07

The only thing that gets flatter on me with each baby are my boobs :-(

smile4me · 24/12/2013 01:02

Yup definitely smaller than before Smile My bum used to stick out a lot, now much flatter, fits in jeans much better Smile

amandine07 · 24/12/2013 07:15

I like this thread!

Have to say I've been lucky- my bum is pretty much how it was pre-pregnancy however there is quite a bit of cellulite!

I found this pretty shocking at first- prior to PG I had a sprinkling of cellulite in the bottom area but nothing really to worry about. Was surprised at this change, hopefully it will disappear following the birth- here's hoping!

Alanna1 · 24/12/2013 07:26

I've just ordered 2 bikinis from figleaves for my holiday, one year after my second baby - and yes, all back to normal but i have lost loads of weight rushing round. Its fab!

theborrower · 24/12/2013 08:37

Yes, my bum was fine. My jelly belly on the other hand... :-(

Zara1984 · 24/12/2013 10:50

Don't worry. I put on a mahoosive amount of weight when I was pregnant, especially in my bum. In the range of 40kg Blush.

I lost it all though and am now 10kg lighter than when I got pregnant with DS (he's 14 months). Didn't believe I would lose all the weight, but I just sort of did!! Especially when DS started moving.

I've got a wibby stretchmarky lower belly though, and lots of silvery stretchmakers all over my bum, hips and thighs. But I don't mind as I look slim otherwise! :)

projectbabyweight · 24/12/2013 10:59

Not yet! But that's purely due to comfort eating/not exercising enough. I nearly got there after dc1, so I'm hopeful I can do it again.

Stomach is occasionally flat, even after 2dc and 1 CS, so there's proof it can be done. I'd swap it for a smaller bum though, the ass grass is always greener Grin

theborrower · 24/12/2013 11:19

Zara1984 what was your secret? Envy

dats · 24/12/2013 11:21

I'm 22+...oh no, I'm 23 weeks today! My bum is spreading everywhere; up my back, width-ways and sliding down my thighs. I am currently containing it with all-over bodyshaper footless tights but it's only a matter of time before it escapes.

Xmas Grin

Brilliant thread for being at work on Christmas Eve! Thanks bumsnetters!

CointreauVersial · 24/12/2013 11:45

You need a big bum when you're PG, otherwise you'd topple over forwards. Grin

Caip · 24/12/2013 12:27

My bum's got loads bigger too and I am horrified at the cellulite in my bum and thighs! Relieved it's not just me!
Love your logic Cointreau!

Zara1984 · 24/12/2013 12:47

Lol dats "bumsnetters"

Theborrower a lot came off by chasing around/playing with DS, and not being as sedentary as I once was. But a big part has been strict portion control, more protein and less carbs, and absolutely NO snacking or eating between meals. Biscuits/cakes/naughty food only on occasion (ie once every few weeks). And coffee has helped a lot as an appetite suppressant. When I'm hungry between meals I have coffee. Not milky lattes, Americano with a splash of milk. Don't drink as much tea as I used to as since having DS I now take sugar with me tea (I started the morning he was born when I was traumatised and in shock on the ward!). Also I try not to drink alcohol too often

I was 110kg+ (no idea what the final figure was, could have been as high as 120kg Blush )when I had DS in October 2012, about 95kg when he was 6 weeks, late 80s till April, just under 80kg in the summer, and the rest came off Aug - October. Am now 68kg. I was 78/79kg when I got pregnant. I was 67kg a few weeks ago until the festive silly season began! Am allowing myself to snack/have Christmassy treats for the next few days, then no more.

I was keen to lose the weight but not certain whether it would come off. I had very high blood pressure starting at 38 weeks and I know now the fact I ate so much and put on so much weight probably had a hand in it (and the induction at 40+1 that followed). I was told I had to get the weight off afterwards to reduce my risk of heart problems, stroke etc. I now actually have slightly too low BP and have to remember to drink enough water!
