Had midwife visit today and bump is measuring 27 at 30 weeks. When she plotted it on the graph it wasn't even on the line. Having a growth scan tmrw and feeling anxious now. Anyone else had this

I'm measuring 28 weeks at 31.

My midwife felt it wasn't a concern due to DD's position.

(Having read your post- would it be really naughty of me to pretend to be worried so I can get another scan? Wink )

Cariad007 · 23/12/2013 20:41

Yes, I had to have a growth scan at 28 weeks as I was measuring small for dates but baby was fine and his measurements were bang in average. I think fundal height measuring can be really inaccurate and cause a lot of unnecessary worry.

Thanks. It's reassuring to know but I will feel much better after the scan. Cranberry :D

I had a scan at 27 weeks as well and everything was ok so hopefully It's just the baby's position

This happened to me at 32weeks-I had MWs flapping all over the place with my small measurements. Consultant saw me before growth scan and said "I bet baby measures fine, you just have strong tummy muscles.

Baby measured fine on growth scan- he came out a tall lanky thing! Smile

Had a very similar experience. Was measuring 27cm at 29 weeks and the midwife just turned around and said "your baby is too small" and that from now on I should be seeing the consultant. I spent a night in shock and worrying that my baby was growth restricted. The next day I visited the Day assessment unit in my hospital and the lead midwife and the consultant there were surprised/annoyed she even said that. Apparently the guidelines say you are allowed to be + or - 3 cm from your gestational age. They should tell people that before worrying us all!!!

I've been measuring 5 weeks behind all pregnancy. 2 growth scans show baby is on the low side of normal but totally fine. Don't panic-just because you're small, doesn't mean the baby is!

Julietee · 23/12/2013 22:37

My doula said she doesn't know why they still measure fundal height because it's not really a great indicator of things and is pretty inaccurate.

I have had scares before too. This will be my 7th scan this pregnancy for various reasons. Hopefully everything will be fine tmrw.

Me too, they never had all these growth scans when I had dd, now 8, but I think we've had about 7 or 8 scans so.far with this one, and all is fine! Grin currently 37weeks.
Don't worry too much, both the tape measuring and the actual scans are notoriously inaccurate, so just see it as a.way of saying hi to baby Smile
a friend of mine's baby was estimated at 10lb+ on ultrasound, then weighed 7lb at birth the week after Hmm Hmm

I measured small for dates too. Midwife sent me for a scan and they discovered I had very low amniotic fluid levels. All it meant was that I had extra scans (which was a pain, but nice to keep seeing baby on the screen) and some heartbeat monitoring a few times a week. When I was at one of the consultant meetings, I looked at a chart on the wall and found that my fluid levels were actually so low they were off the bottom of the chart. I was going to be induced at 37 weeks, but went into labour naturally a few days before that.

I had normal fluid levels with DD2, no scans or monitoring and still went into labour at the same point, so I don't think the lack of fluid had any implications in the end.

Good luck.

Had the scan today. Everything is within normal range :) very relieved and got to see baby again

I think as long as baby grows on a curve (even if that curve is above/below the plotted lines), everything's good. It's just aberrations from that line that can indicate trouble.
Glad to hear the scan showed all is good - I think seeing your baby on the screen never gets old! Xmas Smile
I sort of have the opposite going, last week at not quite 37w I measured 41.5w, but I have an awesome MW who just said, "Well we know it's not going to be a six pounder!"

princesscupcakemummyb · 24/12/2013 18:38

yes with my son who is now 7 weeks i measured behind all the way through the mw never sent me for a growth scan even know at the end i measured 36cm at 39 ish weeks my son was born at 40+2 weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces

ilovesmurfs · 24/12/2013 18:42

I measured small for all my pregnancies, with the first three I had extra scans and they predicted 5-6lb babies.

They were 8lb 7oz, 9lb 3oz, 9lb 5oz, they tried to say no 4 was small, I disagreed, he was 10lb 13oz.

Then thyr said no 5 was big, I said no, she was 8lb exactly!
