Labour?

Haven't been able to sleep past 3am for the last week, sudden horrific heartburn and headaches, feel nauseas every morning.

now (at 4am) I'm wide awake with horrid period type pains and mild lower back ache. I went to bed last night feeling like this. Baby is quite active too.

Im 37 weeks pg now, are these all normal for this stage or could labour be starting?

Head wasn't engaged at my last mw visit earlier this week, no plug or waters broken either.......

If anybody is awake, suggestions ? Thanks Smile

Hiya - just wanted to drop a quick line so you're not alone. Currently feeding my 9 month dd!

Tbh - it just sounds like the usual uncomfortable, nearing-the-end of pregnancy annoying, lack-of-sleep uncomfortableness! Grin I'm not saying it isn't a sign, but when contractions start, believe me - you'll know it! Chin up though - nearly there!

Could be labour, could just be pregnancy niggles. I'm 36 weeks (tomorrow) and I've been having that. Although I'm doing the lie down test to see of my waters have gone.

pregnancy isn't a lot of fun in the late stages

Thanks for replying Smile

Im just fed up of being awake feeling unwell every night/morning.

When i have a baby needing me i wont mind being woken up early at all but lying in bed in the dark with heartburn and feeling sick, constantly worrying I'm getting on my dp's nerves fidgeting its like bloody torture!! Aching legs are not fun either!

Ive given up and got up for a brew and a dvd :)

Good plan. I'm reading my kindle and hoping that will make me sleepy. If not I'll have a nap later.

waters test didn't work. So I'm not leaking. Just so you can see that it's rubbish here too!

Ha ha!
Im going to get the awkward baby that builds up and builds up to it then decides they are coming just as i tuck into christmas dinner!!

The end of pregnancy is much worse than the first few weeks with a newborn.

It does sound like it could be something - labour can start with period type pains, but don't get too excited. This first stage could last ages.

Get as comfy as you can and wait it out. I assume your bag is packed?!

Novia · 19/12/2013 04:47

The end of pregnancy just sucks as you can't get comfortable and you can't sleep.

Weirdly even with bf'ing I got far more sleep in the first couple of weeks after baby was born. I had horrible lower back ache at the end of my pregnancy and just couldn't sleep - just wanted to get baby out!

I had a few nights of period pain towards the end - as everything else, just a sign that you're getting towards the end now. Don't worry too much about waking hubby though, I used to lie there worried about (constantly) turning over to get comfy. He might as well get used to lack of sleep too! Wink

Bag is packed and ready to go! Im not holding out much hope but i hope it might be the start of something!

I feel bad waking him up because he has work and Im on mat leave now... He will be very hands on when baby is here thoughSmile

Oooo how exciting! It sounds like it could be the start to me. But as others have said unfortunately the start can take a long time to properly get going. Not long to go for you now op!

Sid77 · 19/12/2013 04:56

Yes, end of pregnancy is no fun. I was the same OP, really achy legs, woke about 5 times a night, generally felt awful at night. I think it's nature's way of preparing you for sleepless nights. I felt better in the daytime and tried to nap then. I am now feeding my 9 week old DS2, so they definitely come in the end and I am actually sleeping more now than I was from 7-9 months pg. Good luck Smile

Thanks for repliesSmile reassuring to know its not just me!

Baby now feels like they are burrowing ! Belly is doing somersaults all over it, but can feel some wriggling waaaay lower down than I've felt before! Confused

I wonder if the pains you are getting are head engaging pains? Either way good luck.

louise182 · 19/12/2013 05:30

Maybe! Fingers crossed Smile

Sounds like engaging pains. I've been having this, I'm 38 weeks with DC2, except he/she's not staying engaged so it's been going on for weeks. Just relax and watch some telly, at least that way you'll be resting. And biscuits help with the discomfort - medical fact! Grin

AnotherStitchInTime · 19/12/2013 06:45

Sounds like baby engaging to me too. With my second I had that happen and labour started a week later. Late pregnancy sucks as you are just so uncomfortable in every position.

34 weeks with a massive baby and extra water here so I feel your pain. It is all worth it in the end :)
