Pregnancy sickness: what COULD you eat?

So I've had severe pregnancy sickness from about week 6 and pretty much all food makes me cringe. All except Flamin Hot Monster Munch. I won't be telling the midwife that this is how I'm getting 90% of my calories.

What weird things could you stomach?

Could only eat 'pale' coloured foods - mainly oats, bread, plain pasta, and bowls and bowls and bowls of cornflakes. Anything green, or red, or pink, or brown - vom.

Nyborg · 16/12/2013 19:29

Oh, and chips with lots of ketchup in an "emergency". Nothing mixed - poor DH made a beautiful shepherds' pie and I cried because I didn't want to eat it.

I lived on pickled onion space raiders and milky ways when having dd2. Anything else made me sick and the sickness lasted until the last few weeks. Unbelievably I only put on 7lbs despite having a 7lb 8oz baby and polyhydraminos and after 48 hours you couldn't tell I had been pregnant Grin

Goodasitgets it's funny you mention bitter lemon as I've got a craving for sour lemony drinks.

Ds1 - sausage rolls
Ds2 - nectarines and fizzy cola bottle sweets

shobby · 16/12/2013 19:35

One thing that worked for me was to avoid eating and drinking at the same time: guaranteed to make me hurl! I learned to eat a bit and have a drink at least an hour later or just have a drink on its own. I also found diet bitter lemon drink helpful in reducing nausea: you burp like mad but feel better!

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep · 16/12/2013 19:36

Salt and vinegar crisps and mars bars were all I ate from week 5 to week 20 ish when pg with my twins.

CheckpointCharlie · 16/12/2013 19:37

Ice cubes and salt and vinegar crisps.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 16/12/2013 19:38

Watermelon. Very easy to eat, hydrating too and didn't taste too bad on the way back up either.

Mintyy · 16/12/2013 19:39

I could eat a bagel with a slice of cheddar cheese at about 11am, drink weak summerfruits squash and eat the occasional apple, plus the odd supplementary slice of toast or plain biscuit. For the first 20 weeks.

SomethingLovely · 16/12/2013 19:39

Crunchy nut cornflakes
Full fat milk
Mini pork pies
Pineapple rings (no other shape would do)

ThursdayLast · 16/12/2013 19:40

Anything carby and salty.
Crisps, chips, toast loaded with butter.

somedizzywhore1804 · 16/12/2013 19:40

I'm glad crisps are featuring heavily here!! Grin

Roasted salted peanuts and full fat coke. Lived on that for about 10 weeks.

DH used to make me 'light' meals, which often included a piece of salmon. I'd push it round my plate and then go upstairs and sleep for 14 hours. I can't think about salmon without feeling sick now.

Better than NYC the first time round though. Yup, a whole city made me feel sick. Any mention of it still does, a bit.

TheRobberBride · 16/12/2013 19:44

Toast and flat Sprite

Newtobecomingamum · 16/12/2013 19:59

Birds eye potatoe waffles on toast with lots of ketchup!! Plus diet coke with sugar penny sweets for afters. That was all I could eat for months!

heymammy · 16/12/2013 20:04

Anything stodgy like mashed potatoes, sausage and beans...which I would promptly throw up about half an hour later Hmm

Ilanthe I'm the same with Las Vegas. Approx 10 weeks preg the
2nd time I went and now even thinking of the place gives me queasy flashbacks!

rootypig · 16/12/2013 20:06

Tuna mayonnaise pasta. McDonalds double cheeseburgers. Fish and chips!

Oddsocksrus · 16/12/2013 20:23

The Italian lemonade that comes in cans, water melon, salt and vinegar crisps and the thin Dutch ginger biscuits
Lots of water everything in tiny amounts, if I are anything like a normal amount it all came back up

I was sick about 12 times a day from 4 to 16 weeks, body odours especially set me off and the smell of meat..

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 16/12/2013 20:33

The absolute worst thing when I was pg was that my boss at the time was doing a detox and basically living on brown rice, fish and curried parsnip soup.

Needless to say she reeked and I struggled not to actually recoil in horror whenever she came near me. How I managed not to throw up over.her is.still.a mystery to me 10 years later!

Naomilouise1992 · 16/12/2013 20:42

I just had sweets n chocolate for ages wudnt drink water or eat fruit because when I did I'd throw up so it was sweets and fizzy pop xxcx

MsInterpret · 16/12/2013 20:43

Jacket potato with butter. Or chips. Blush

Ilanthe · 16/12/2013 21:02

I'm glad someone else has had the city related flashback sickness heymammy, I thought I was the only one. Pictures of the Flatiron building are a particular trigger.

BurnThisDiscoDown · 16/12/2013 21:20

Ready salted hula hoops. I ate a fuckton of them. Poor DS, I'm surprised he didn't come out hula hoop shaped! Grin

workshyfop · 16/12/2013 21:29

Black olives, heinz tomato soup and satsumas.

Ilanthe and heymammy San Francisco for me. Just the thought of the place makes me retch. And it was the lake district for my first pregnancy. I'll never go back to either.
