I am 18+1 and have had bad bloating and indigestion from day 1. Sometimes in the first tri i looked about 6 months gone. Now im a bit further on and have an actual bump, is it normal to practically double in size over the course of a day? I wake up looking all small and cute and go to bed uncomfortable and enormous.

Im not eating too much, if anything the indigestion and bloating are making me only able to eat a few snack size portions a day, a bite too much and i feel like ive eaten 2 xmas dinners and can almost feel it coming back up im so full. Sometimes just a banana can have this effect.

Basically is this a normal preg thing or something else?

This happens to me too. I was very slim pre pregnancy so this might be making it more noticeable. The biggest thing for me was constipation. My bloating is much, much worse if I haven't had a bowel movement that day. You could try more fibre rich foods or try to get a pregnancy friendly laxative prescribed if you think this might be a problem for you. Good luck!

Progesterone slows the movement of bowels downbto help the body absorb nutrients more effectively, our biology is still geared up to expect a famine despite how much you feed it! This causes more gas to be produced and results in a big gut. I have this almost daily, too. If I wear anything slimming or controlling it makes me feel sick.... I have become very much an advocate for a healthy daily bowel movement, if it doesn't happen I feel so rough....

I have found drinking large cups of peppermint or chamomile tea quite helpful in sending the wind on its way, and you are also allowed to take Rennie-type of indegestion tablets if it becomes actual trapped wind. If suitable a few yoga squats are also good for a lazy gut and moving wind along, but get some instructions how to do these safely if you are unfamiliar with exercise.

At least i know it's normal! My friends couldnt believe it tonight when i showed them my before and after dinner bump! I am taking rennie and will try the teas. I have a friend at work who teaches dru yoga and i will join her class in the new year. Thanks!
