Whittling about DVT (could be cramp)

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and was woken yesterday morning by cramp in my left calf. I wailed and writhed around and tried to move my leg and the severe cramping went.

I haven't had any more cramping since but my calf muscle is sore and feels really tight.

I thought it might be due to wearing heels to a couple of Christmas dos this weekend but now i'm worried its a dvt because my right leg is fine.

Please tell me I'm being an idiot and this is just what cramp is like!

Other signs to worry about include swelling, redness, heat in the area and IME the muscle feeling harder.

I think you would be wise to get it checked out. Hope it's nothing.

KeepTryin · 15/12/2013 21:17

It prob is cramp but go and get it checked, better to be safe than sorry. I had one in my groin at 28 weeks. Area was painful and leg became mottled and red and slightly swollen. Hope it turns out to be cramp for you. Try not to worry. Once it's checked you'll have peace of mind.

HarkAtYou · 15/12/2013 21:24

Gah! Ok will do, it's not red or swollen or mottled.
Oh I hope it's just gone when I wake up tomorrow!

I'm 21+4 and get cramp regularly in my feet and legs, not both at the same time, especially in bed!

callamia · 15/12/2013 21:36

I had agonising cramp during the night during pregnancy. You can always have it checked if you feel worried, but cramp is fairly normal.

HarkAtYou · 15/12/2013 21:45

Dats and callamia when you had cramp did the severe pain go but the muscular pain linger?
36 hours later and it's still a bit painful to straighten my leg with my weight on when I get up.

My cramps affect my leg muscle for a couple of days after. I think they cause a tiny tear and it feels like a bad sprain. So it's probably that but as a pp said keep an eye out for any redness, swelling and heat as well.

HarkAtYou · 15/12/2013 21:52

Aw thank you, I'm going to give it until tomorrow lunch time, if it's still painful then I'll make a drs appointment. And I'll look out for redness, heat and swelling.
Thanks again for replying, all of you

I had loads of leg cramps like this in my last pregnancy - they seemed to improve when I started taking prenatal vitamins.

HarkAtYou · 15/12/2013 22:22

Humm, I thought I'd been quite good at remembering to take my pregnacare recently but I'll keep an eye on that

Agonising cramp here the other night and it felt like the muscle had been pulled for a couple of days afterwards - deeply unpleasant!

Doctorbrownbear · 16/12/2013 05:23

Your symptoms don't sound unusual. I get this quite often in pregnancy. The muscle aches afterwards. Mine cramp tends to be worse after alot of walking.

Julietee · 16/12/2013 09:17

My cramps are excruciating and make me hobble about for up to a week after! As long as there's been a definite cramp to set off the ache I don't worry.

HarkAtYou · 16/12/2013 12:36

Excellent, that was exactly what I needed to hear. It's still sore now but it's definitely muscular.

Ooh sorry, forgot to check back but yes, as others have said: if it's a particularly bad cramp I can definitely feel residual tenderness.
