Painful second pregnancy?

I've been having a lot of pains thorughout this pregnancy (my 2nd). All around my womb area. Sometimes just aches and sometimes something akin to being stabbed by a hot knitting needle. I have spoken with my midwife, and doctor, and they have both said it's just the ligaments 'pinging' rather than stretching slowly, as they've been stretched once before. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? At times I'm finding it really disconcerting, and worrying. I'm striving not to compare it to my first pregnancy, which was plain sailing from the word go . But, it's difficult as it's all I've got to compare it too, IYSWIM?

(I meant '......to compare it to....'!)
Forgot to say, I'm 15 weeks.

Those sorts of aches and pains were normal for me, all my pregnancies....

did you have a c section first time round. My second pregnancy was more uncomfortable but I turned out to have lots of scar tissue from the first section.

I am 16 weeks too and yes i know just what you are saying as i have these really disconcerting pains in the lower abdomen area too. mostly around the ovary areas and the tops of my hips /pelvis or at least thats what it feels like. Have you had a recent scan? or are you waiting for the 20 week one, it might be worth a quick ultra sound just to hear the heart beat to put your mind a little more at rest.

I had a plain sailing pregnancy first time round and many more aches and pains second time round, now have a healthy 6 month old ds. I was also quite concerned but was assured that it was normal. HTH.

To be honest, the pregnancy was very different and ds is also very different to dd in lots of ways so it sort of got me prepared IYSWIM!

twiglet, lol 'this many ligaments' - exactly!
jimjams, I didn't have a c-section first time, so it can't be scar tissue; but I know my ovaries are scarred from PCOS, so I wonder if it's possibly being obstructive in some way.
Stace, if I'd have gone into further detail, your description would have been near perfect. Although I am experiencing a lot of the pains in my womb area, there are also certainly some to each side, where I would imagine my ovaries to be at this stage.
I've decided to wait 'till my midwife appointment on thurs to hear the heartbeat...I should imagine if I let myself start going in at every twinge, I'll be well on the road to neurosis! Plus, everything was ok at the 12 week scan (I've just not been convinced).
Thanks for all your replies, it looks as though everyone's second has differed, and often with extra pains too. Thanks for putting my mind at rest , I feel a lot less worried now.
