Scared for my first scan

I've had nausea, feeling tired and fainted a few days ago but I'm still scared that something has gone wrong and I'm going crazy with worry. I haven't had any stretching feelings and my symptoms aren't as bad is that a really bad sign?

Everyone feels nervous before their first scan. I'm sure it will be fine. It's normal for symptoms to completely disappear around this time too as your placenta takes over and you stop feeling quite so crappy. It's also normal to have different symptoms to other people. Or different to your own other pregnancies!

Congratulations.

Thanks I don't have the scan until weds and I've been really happy until recently when it's dawned on me this scan might not be good news. I just need to be prepared I guess but I've had a couple month of being excited and it can all go wrong with one scan. I think it's pretty bad you have to wait 3 whole month tbh because you are already a 1/3 of the way through!

Aww barbsta I'll hold your hand. I also have a scan on Wednesday...my 20 week one. I bricked it before my 12 week one and feel the same about the next one.

My symptoms eased off around 10 weeks and i managed to convince myself that I had MC again. I burst into tears as soon as saw scanner but Sonographer was lovely and she revealed a happy bouncing bubba.

Try not to panic she says unable to sleep xx

Mabelandrose · 15/12/2013 08:17

I feel the same if it's any help. I'm not due a scan until jan but already dreading it.

The odds are in your favour that everything is fine. Like others have said the symptoms usually subside around now.

HarkAtYou · 15/12/2013 08:24

I felt very anxious before mine too but everything was fine and I'm 23 weeks now. I'm sending you good vibes.
Try to keep as busy as you can between now and weds, that helped me a bit.
Agree with pp re symptoms, it's only a little bean now, I'm sure the stretching feeling will come in due course.

DontLetTheMugglesGetYouDown · 15/12/2013 09:21

I was terrified for mine on Friday as well. Had been feeling really dizzy and convinced myself something had gone wrong. I got there and there was a lovely bouncing baby on the screen :)

Chances are if anything bad was to happen you would more than likely know about it with bleeding and pain. Try to keep positive.

LastOneDancing · 15/12/2013 09:31

Scans are both the most terrible and wonderful things. It's absolutely normal to feel terrified but it's eclipsed by the relief when (in the majority of cases thank goodness) everything is fine. I'm jittery about my 24 week Doppler with the MW despite my kick-monster rumbling away all night

We hear so much about the times when things arent right, that it skews the reality - as PPs have said the odds are in your favour, particularly if you've had no indication of a problem. The sonographer looked at me like I was a loon for getting upset before my 12-week scan after a relatively problem-free first tri!

Best of luck to everyone awaiting scans! Thanks

firstbaby01 · 15/12/2013 10:56

I have my first scan on Tuesday and im terrified! I have been really ill over the past 5 days so I don't think that's helped with trying not to worry!
Good luck with your scans everyone Xmas Smile

VJONES1985 · 15/12/2013 11:20

I'm only five weeks and am already anxious about things going wrong!

AuntieMaggie · 15/12/2013 11:29

I'm in the same boat - my scan is on 23 Dec and I have this recurring nightmare at the minute that when they scan nothing is there :(

Good luck for Weds Xmas Smile

VJONES1985 · 15/12/2013 11:45

Oh god, Maggie, don't say that! I worry about all that sort of stuff.

wispaxmas · 15/12/2013 12:43

Symptoms come and go. I've had barely a sniff of any symptom, boobs are barely bigger at all, not been sick once, only thing is that I'm more tired than usual and have been getting colds monthly. Try not to worry too much. Distract yourself with something for a few days.

And as a side note, congrats Vjones! I haven't checked in on ttc bus in ages, I'm so happy for your good news!

Barbsta · 15/12/2013 15:36

This forum is a godsend :) I'm always told every pregnancy is different but it's nice to get all those different opinions it really helps

With DS all my symptoms went at 9 weeks and I was convinced I'd MC as had lost previous pregnancy at same point. This time I had zero symptoms other than generally feeling a bit unwell and tired (so normal for a working mum of a two-year-old, basically) and bubba was fine in 12 week scan. Of course I'm now apprehensive about the 20 week, but honestly the worry won't change the outcome. Enjoy your pregnancy for however long it lasts and congrats!

Elliejmulligan · 15/12/2013 15:58

I had a missed mc previously, my symptoms went at 6 weeks so knew something was wrong... With this one, I was feeling rough, so that's how I knew all was fine. I'm 33 weeks :-)

livingzuid · 16/12/2013 05:39

I howled at my scan. I was an absolute mess, blubbed all over my gynaecologist who was lovely. Even though I has hg and was/am sick as a dog. Then up popped the baby on the screen :) I will probably be the same at 20 weeks even though at 15 weeks I am now beginning to show.

The chances of all being fine are most definitely in your favour :)

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 16/12/2013 06:13

my SIL had 9 children and had 4 MCs - she was the same each time, feeling nauseous but never ever sick.
there was absolutely no indication of any of the MCs until she started loosing them.Sad

I was very sick with DS3 (only put on 1st 2 lbs in 9 my months yet baby was 9lbs 6oz!), but much better with DD.

also I very sick with my 5th pg that ended in a MC - so my experience is that while early pg symptoms are encouraging, they are no guarantee that baby is ok and equally the lack or mildness of them doesn't mean that there's a problem either.
you just can't tell.
it's an anxious time.

I'm 10 weeks today with #7 and looking forward to scan in a couple of weeks - all I can do is hope and pray that this baby will be ok.
until then there's just no way of knowing.

fx for you OP

EssexGirlLottie · 16/12/2013 13:08

Thank god i'm not the only one. I had a BFP test last Thursday but i don't really have any symptoms yet. Doc says i am 5-6 weeks and the sickness usually starts around week 7. As much as i don't want to be sick, i also woudln't mind some symptoms. Every time i say to my DH i feel slightly nauseous or ask him if my boobs are bigger, he just rolls his eyes and tells me it's all in my head and i'm totally the same. He's far too honest sometimes!
I did contemplate an early private scan but as it's my 1st pg and everything else seems fine, i think that it's probably not worth it...

Tomkat79 · 16/12/2013 15:16

essex it's such a shame to read that you are sooo worried with baby #1. I carried my DS 8 years ago and there was no googling of symptoms, no scare stories or anything for me to get concerned about. I was in ignorant bliss. Having now had a MC this pregnancy has been a totally different experience, I was on symptom and knicker watch every day for first 12 weeks and have now managed to convince myself that there is something wrong and will be detected on Wednesday at 21 weeks. I'm the size of a house and feel occasional movement. Deep down I know I'm being irrational. Makes me wonder how our mothers/grandmothers made it through the 9 months with no scans!

Beware...dr google is not always your friend! Everything is good so far and today you are pregnant. Try to relax x

mrsmugoo · 16/12/2013 15:57

I didn't get any symptoms at all - I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 14 weeks!

livingzuid · 16/12/2013 16:32

Honestly be grateful for the lack of symptoms! I am in bed with a bucket right now....would swap!

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 16/12/2013 16:57

wise words Tomkat

and about grandmas - twins were almost always a surprise!
