So, what 'feelings' down below are normal in first month?

I'm nearly five weeks pg and have had a lot of pressure feelings down below, which I believe is normal, but also occasionally a cramping pain in my lower abdomen. Is this all normal?

I think early cramping is from the implantation, so nothing to worry about.

qazxc · 14/12/2013 19:43

Yep all absolutely normal, esp at the start. The twinges and cramps should die down in a few weeks.

theborrower · 14/12/2013 19:44

Yes, light cramping is quite normal in early pregnancy, it's your uterus growing

VJONES1985 · 14/12/2013 19:46

Good. I find it uncomfortable!!

My first pregnancy was a complete surprise, and for about three weeks I was convinced I was going to have the worst period ever, only to be amazed not to see any blood when I went to the loo. Once the sickness got bad enough I went and bought a test....

The womb and its ligaments are stretching quite a bit to accommodate a sudden growth in it, and the relaxing hormones haven't quite kicked in yet at this point. Some of the ligaments connect all the way onto the skin of the outside of the vagina which makes the weird internal twinges easier to understand.

VJONES1985 · 14/12/2013 20:05

Most of the cramps and pressure are just above the vagina, below the 'sticky outty' bit of the belly (for those of us not blessed with a washboard stomach!).

I'm now feeling a throbbing pain in my left pelvic area, near the bone, and I'm scared. My dh is out and I'm crying because I don't know what's normal and what isn't.

I wasn't aware of any feelings or twinges down below but every pregnancy is different. I'm sure someone more helpful will be along soon. 4 weeks is incredibly early it's probably implantation settling in.

VJONES1985 · 14/12/2013 20:57

Yeah, I'm sure it's fine, am just a bit teary and fed up tonight!

How are you feeling now V?

VJONES1985 · 14/12/2013 21:57

Feeling fine now, no pain or discomfort. Seems to happen occasionally rather than constantly (once or twice a day really) and I just find it uncomfortable.

V I think I have almost the exact same timings as you, about 4 weeks, and I'm getting all sorts of aches and twinges and the most ridiculous bloating. No other symptoms yet, but I know what you mean and how scary it is. Hopefully we'll both be ok; the scary bit is just not knowing if things are, isn't it?? I've taken two pregnancy tests today. I think that's about my 9th since my first positive on Thursday night. I keep just dipping in an IC "to check". DH thinks I'm going crazy but I think at this stage it must be normal. hugs and hope we'll see each other through till August!

I never had cramps with DS, but this time around I noticed a strange sensation in my lower left abdomen - really low down and it felt like knotting or even a strange sort of burrowing sensation. I would probably have been around 5 weeks and it went on for a good few days. It wasn't painful, but was slightly uncomfortable (I think it was because I didn't know what it was). It was more noticeable when I was lying down or thinking about it. I'm 11+1 now and all is well (just the morning sickness to contend with lately).

I think cramping is quite common, so shouldn't be anything to worry about. I googled like mad too, but then one day the cramps just disappeared and I'd all but forgotten them until I read your post.

VJONES1985 · 15/12/2013 21:31

Thanks for the reassurance, ladies. And sleepyhead, it's so nice to know you feel the same and have the same timings as me too - makes me feel much better :-)

Hi Vjones,

I am about 5 weeks and have been experiencing the same! I keep getting lower stomach cramps and back aches and feel like my period is going to start any day. I have IBS and this has always played up before a period because of the hormones, so my guess is the hormones are causing it to play up now too...

I saw the GP this morning as I am being treated for an UTI. She assured me that cramps and pain in early pregnancy are quite normal as it's to do with the ligaments stretching. I am somewhat reassured however there is still part of me that keeps wanting to pee on a stick to keep reminding myself it's actually happening! (Problem is that I end up blabbing with every BFP I get, there is no winning!! Wink )

How are you feeling today?

VJONES1985 · 16/12/2013 19:01

Ha ha,I caved and poas today! Hadn't done it for four day so thought I should!

Not too bad - v tired, weeing constantly and think I have thrush :-( So roll on Friday, when xmas starts for me (I'm a teacher). I'm 4+6 weeks. You?

VJONES1985 · 16/12/2013 19:02

Thank you for telling me that, by the way. Makes me feel better.

I'm 5+1 going by my LMP. First ever pregnancy so I'm freaking out just a little!

Have you had many other symptoms? Last week I was very tired suddenly and I get headaches but nothing to convince me this is really real! Keep an eye on your thrush because the GP said UTI's are pretty common in this stage so don't suffer if they can treat it! I bet you are glad for the Xmas break... I work for the ambulance service so unfortunately my working week is starting on Xmas eve this year, bad timing on my part!
