I had a heavy bleed last Tuesday which at the time the hospital could not see why, I have had a scan today and they have found a anechoic area at the lower edge of the placenta measuring 13x17x24mm she has then put ?? Sub-chorionic bleed. I asked what does it mean and was told it should be fine not to worry and they would check it again at my 20 week scan. So like an idiot I googled it when I got home and the outcome looks crap :( wouldnt they have told me if they thought it was bad??

Has anyone else had one??

And to top it off I have shut my 9 years olds hand in the car door this evening so my DH is sat up the hospital with him as it looks like I have broken his middle finger :(

You poor thing what a rubbish day you are having. How many weeks are you?I was scanned on a portable scanner(it was a sunday) at 14 weeks for bleeding though I wouldnt say it was heavy and told that the doctor could see a small area of separation possibly caused by a bleed at the top of the placenta and was terrified. I then ended up back 5 days later was scanned by the usual sonographer to be told hmm mayabe this is what she was talking about but its more like a placental lake is only 1cm and nothing to worry about apparently both them and haematoma are common. Im sure someone with better knowledge will be along but alot do either bleed out or get reabsorbed by 20 weeks. I got amazing support and hand holding here when I needed it from ladies who had had a haematoma hope one of them comes on.
I really hope your ds is ok too Thanks

Forgot to say the result of my pregnancy is alseep in her cot right now.

highlove · 13/12/2013 23:58

I had one. Sorry cant remember the size but I bled from 6 weeks until about 9 weeks. Everyone was pretty blasé about apart from me - I was scared absolutely shitless. They were right - I'm nearly 28 weeks, haven't bled since about 9+1 and touch wood all is looking good.

Like you I googled and found all kinds of terrifying stuff. I also posted here and I think every poster (there were lots) had had a happy outcome.

Try to relax and best of luck.

I bled heavily at 11 weeks (heavily enough that they kept me in for observation for 48hrs). I bled for about a week and they scanned me on the second day and couldn't see a cause. A week later they could see the bleed. If they can see it on the ultrasound it's "old" blood. It may come out or it might be reabsorbed. Mine had completely disappeared by 20 week scan. Baby was completely unaffected.

Peacenquiet2 · 14/12/2013 03:53

I hav a close friend who had this and bled heavily each time she had a bowel movement. Turned out fine, her dd is now 7 months old. Of course my friend as very worried but its apparently quite common and resolves naturally as the pg progresses.

I had a bleed at 9 or 10 wks that measured bigger than the sac and baby on the subsequent scan. I gushed bright red blood and then had intermittent bleeding followed by brown spotting. By the 20 week scan it had shrunk to nothing and my baby girl is.now 2 yrs old. I do think it is quite common although alarming. I never relaxed throughout the whole pregnancy.

I had a big fresh bleed at 14 weeks - lots of red blood just appearing from nowhere Hmm Went straight to hospital who examined me but couldn't find a cause. I then continued to bleed for 5 days but only dry/brown blood. My midwife gave me a possible explanation ,cps merging to do with cycstic areas around the placenta, but said it couldn't be confirmed until my 20 week scan. She said it was more common than people realised though. My GP then signed me off work until I had my 20 week scan so I could get the all clear. When I had my scan there was nothing to be seen that was of any worry and my placenta was fine. I'm now 25 weeks pregnant and baby is doing well Smile

Thank you everyone for your replies. I am really very emotional at the moment and just cant see this ending well, which I know is silly! I am 13 + 3 and had the major bleed at 11+6 since then I bleed for 2 days like a period and then have had pink discharge since (which seems to have stopped this morning) I have 3 DS's so its so hard to rest although I am trying and DH seems to have got fed up with it all :(

Tarka really, thats reassuring as I was worried as it didnt show up last week that it had grown for her to see it this week!

I am seeing my consultant on Thursday (an all ready arranged appointment) So I will be asking him a 100 questions!

Its just so worrying every time I get any sort of pain I think its getting bigger, although most of the time its wind Blush

Its going to be a very long 25 weeks.

Good luck for your scan, I hope all is ok. I had a fairly big bleed due to a small subchorionic haematoma at 11 weeks and then bled on and off from 14 to 19 weeks. I was so worried and didn't believe there would be a baby h at the end of my pregnancy. All was fine on my 20 week scan and DD is now 9 months.

ceara · 16/12/2013 22:17

seatfor5 good luck for tomorrow. I know bleeding of any kind is so frightening and we all assume the worst but like others who've posted, wanted to say that my SCH resolved without causing a problem to the pregnancy and I'm 34 weeks now. I bled red at 7 weeks and as Tarka experienced, there was no SCH visible on the scan when the bleed was fresh but 2 weeks later it was bigger than the embie. The SCH is old pooled blood. It may get larger before its gone so don't be scared by that. Also the blood has to either be reabsorbed into the body or find its way out so you may continue to spot for some time. I spotted til 11 weeks and the SCH was visible for some time after that but gone by 20 weeks.

There is a lot of scary stuff on the internet so stay away from Dr Google! The odds are on your side for a good outcome. Fingers crossed.

TreaterAnita · 16/12/2013 23:02

Fingers crossed for you tomorrow, seatfor5. Completely understandable for you to be worried, but if it helps the general rule is that brown blood is 'old' blood, so if it wasn't a big bleed, it may just be bleeding from last time making its way out. Please try to stay away from google (I speak with the benefit of bitter experience, my pregnancy, which was complicated for other reasons, was not enhanced by worrying about what might happen).

mamicar · 16/12/2013 23:04

haven't read whole thread so sorry if I am repeating.

I had a sub chronic bleed. 22x24x22. Ds is almost 7 xx Thanks

AHardDaysWrite · 16/12/2013 23:05

I had one and really panicked but it had gone by the 20 week scan. Dd is 8 months old now. Good luck tomorrow.

PickleSarnie · 17/12/2013 08:03

I had one about 5 times the size of yours. Had absolutely massive amount of bleeding at just after 11 weeks. Gushed all over the floor and continued like a really heavy period for a couple of days. Had brown bleeding after that for a couple of weeks. The clot was still there at my 20 week scan (but much smaller) . My son was born at 39+5 perfectly healthy and totally oblivious!
