So since last weekend I've been suffering with a nasty chesty cough which has now made me all snotty and bunged up. After googling what I can do to relieve congestion I asked dh to trudge out in the rain and get me some Vicks vapour rub. Oh my god it's brilliant! My mum never used it on me as a kid because it's sticky but my god I don't give a toss about the stickiness, I'm grateful my chest has something cooling it slightly.

If anyone has any other good remedies a 25 week pregnant lady can use id be most grateful! I'm drinking hot water with honey and lemon, and dosing up daily on vitamin c effervescent tablets and soluble paracetamol if I really need them.

I've just developed a lovely chesty cough, sore throat and bunged up nose so gonna watch with interest and see if anyone has any suggestions as to what might help!

Im a big fan of olbus oil. I had bad chest/cold last week so i went for a double wammie; rubbed vicks on chest n back and had olbus oil in hot steamy water in a bowl next to the bed which vapourises the air in the room. Also just took good old paracetomol on a regular basis. Getting ill when pregnant stinks!

Certainly does! Flixy, do you use Vicks?

Smother your feet with the Vicks tonight and put cotton socks on, works like magic!

If you can handle it then try eating a couple of garlic cloves.

Peacenquiet I thought I'd read you couldn't use olbas oil when pregnant?

ladythatlunches · 13/12/2013 18:11

Vick on your feet with socks and milk with honey. These 2 were my saviour in pregnancy. Also drinking water with fresh lemon squeezed in.

Get better soon

Flixy102 · 13/12/2013 18:15

Going to hunt for the vicks later, I'm sure we have some somewhere!

Why on your feet, by the way?

K8eee · 13/12/2013 19:27

Oh my god I've just put a teaspoon of Vicks in a bowl of hot water and the pressure released is amazing! Flixy, if you find it put some in a bowl, and in your bedroom whilst you sleep. You'll be able to breath a heck of a lot better than without it. Yeah I've heard on your feet works too! Wonder why Blush

I found Vicks/ Olbas Oil absolutely useless. I know its not recommended in pregnancy but ive only 6 weeks to go, I used decongestants etc. Worse cold I've ever had!
