Pregnant but nothing on scan!

Hey ladies,
Joined here for some advice and reassurance. Had my last period on 3rd November. I don't have regular cycles at all, anywhere from 25-61 days. We had intercourse on the 8th and 22nd of November, and I got positive tests on the 7th December. Used Clearblue digital that said 2-3 weeks.
Anyway, was experiencing lots of right-sided pain so had a scan, ultrasound and Trans yesterday. They couldn't find anything.
So, I suppose my question is, which day could I have conceived on? And, why isn't there anything to be seen on the scans?

Positive tests but nothing on scans

Bing13, I'm not an expert, but it seems to me there are three possible explanations: either you were pregnant and now are not, or it is an ectopic pregnancy, or there was something wrong with the scan.

What did they tell you at the hospital? They have excluded ectopic pregnancy, I take it? And have you retested?

Bing13 · 12/12/2013 23:33

Thanks for your reply.
They didn't seem that bothered at the hospital. They gave me a leaflet on ectopic pregnancy, and said to go back next Friday, and to go to A&E if I feel unwell. Just seems a long time to wait! I've retested lots. Becoming a bit obsessed with it to be honest. Haha

The exact thing happened to me. I was kept in hospital as they feared ectopic. Had a scan a week later and everything was fine.

Bing13 · 12/12/2013 23:37

Sydlexic, did they say it was just too early to pick it up on the scan? If you don't mind me asking, how many weeks were you on your first scan?

I'm so sorry, Bing. Most likely is that you have lost the pregnancy. It's very common this early on - happened to me, positive tests then nothing appeared on a scan at 6 weeks. And yes, very often the HCPs don't seem bothered - they were very dismissive with me (and I was very distressed - it had taken me 6 years to achieve this pregnancy).

Obviously it's very important that you get help asap if it turns out to be ectopic, so do keep an eye on that pain.

All best to you.

Same thing here although I had an empty sac at 6 weeks, and a yolk sac at 7. Yesterday a MMC was confirmed. The delay is to make sure they are correct. It would be awful of they got it wrong. My first scan was private and they were awful. Since then I've been seen at the Early Pregnancy Unit. They are brilliant. I'm going in for surgery today and I'm feeling relatively positive about the whole thing.

I don't want to give false hope, but it could simply be too early to see anything?

Bing13 · 13/12/2013 09:03

Devora, I'm so sorry that after all your years of trying
didn't end well. Lots of luck to you for the future.

DoctorDonnaNoble, I'm also sorry to hear of your bad luck. Hope your surgery goes well today. My first scan was also private, and they seemed very unclear and unhelpful about what could be going on. It's very confusing when you're trying to get things sorted in your head.

Plateofcrumbs, I think you might be right as I retested this morning and still getting a positive result. I suppose I just have to wait. With my cycles being irregular, I might have conceived later than my dates suggest as I know there is quite a variation of possibilities.

Thank you for your responses. Really appreciate it

That is really sweet of you, Bing. It was actually years ago - I've had two children since! Hope all works out for you x

If you dtd on November 22 it could well be too early to see anything. You could have conceived up to 5 days later and if your cbd is saying 2-3 weeks it means your hcg values are under 200 so you definitely would not see anything at that point. I would say it is definitely too early to tell with you and would not rule out a viable pregnancy at this point. If you go back in a week you should know more.

RaRa1988 · 13/12/2013 09:57

I second what MissMedusa has said. The waiting is going to horrible, but unfortunately it's the only way to know. Bear in mind though, if you have lost the pg as others have suggested, you won't get a negative HPT result straight away, especially as (presumably from what you've said) you haven't bled so the pg tissue will still be inside it. Don't use the positive test as an indication that all is ok. I don't mean to be horrible; just don't want you to cling onto that and that alone just in case. Flowers
