SMP question..????

Is anyone thinking to return for work before 39 weeks?

Actually I got Maternity Leave from 1 May 2013 to 1 Dec 2013 but these are not 39 weeks. For this Period I was getting my SMP(around £600)... No issues.

Issue-
As my leave was ending 1 Dec I thought to return back and join on 1 Dec 2013. So I talked to my employer but as I have my baby I cant join full time and agreed to work part time 2 days a week. They have given me new work and date to start next week. But Now If I am calculating my salary(around £200) by new job specification I am getting Lower than SMP in new job profile. Xmas Shock Nooooooo... Xmas Confused I am regretting that I could have waited till 39 weeks and got SMP.
I know I am trying to fetch everything what I can... as every pence is needed after having a baby.

Is any one has any Idea or advice what I can do now? Or if any fact which can help me about maternity pay is hidden from me..

Thanks in advance
Cake

You can ask if they will let you stay on SMP until the end of your 39 weeks and just return to work at the end of it, however unless its more than 8 weeks until you're due to return they are unlikely to agree (you have to give them minimum of 8 weeks notice for returning to work). No harm in asking though!
