High BMI and ultrasound

I had my 20w scan on Friday which was incomplete, she said due to positioning of the baby, however in my notes she also states "extremely difficult due to high BMI".

I had a scan at 9w, and 12w with no problem at all with seeing bean, and I haven't gained a much weight at all. The only difference this time was she had me half sitting up rather than lying flat like I was in the other 2 scans.

Basically I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of it getting harder to see the bean as you progress rather than easier, or if maybe it was my position as I guess it makes my fat bits bunch up!

I'm worried my repeat scan will also be difficult

When I had my 12w scan the scanner did say that visibility was limited due to bmi but nothing was said at my 20w scan.

I'm guessing you will get a re scan and hopefully it will be a better one.

I have a high BMI and had no problems . I wasn't scanned until /25 weeks and the pictures are so clear .
I was laid flat so it's probably because you were half sitting.

It wasn't as clear as it may have been but never caused any problems.

I will try lying flat and drinking a bit more I think! I just hope it will be ok this time

Hi sammi i haven't had my 20 week scan yet but had scans at 10 and 12 weeks and no problems. i have seen other threads where high bi was mentioned in the notes but never said aloud during the scan. Hope all goes well for your rescan x

MrsCharlesBrandon · 11/12/2013 18:57

My 12 week scan was difficult due to my BMI, but all subsequent ones (every 2 weeks from 19 weeks) were fine.

Hope everything goes well with your next scan!

Thank you ladies, I'm really hoping it will be fine this time. If not I may cry lol
