Hi, im sort of new to this so unsure what to write ! I am 5 weeks pregnant. I have been having cramps for about 3 weeks then this morning a little bit of brown blood / discharge and now im really worried! Had a scan today but as only 5 weeks they obv cant see the heartbeat yet so got to go back in a week. Has anyone experienced symptoms like this and should i be really worried ? Hope some lovely people put my mind at ease !

these symptoms are very likely to be implementation pain & bleeding, so you will probably perfectly fine.

brown blood is "old" blood, nothing to worry about.
red blood is always fresh and would be alarming.

if the pain is like dull to "crunching" period pain like that's fine.

sharp stabbing pains on your side - maybe something else.

hth

Thanks for replying, feel better knowing it may be nothing. I've had the sharp stabbing pains but that's up near my ribs like a stitch ! Find myself getting worried after every twinge recently :-/ roll on 12 week scan !

Hi there. This seema quite common at this stage. Try not to worry. I am on the "due in August" antenatal thread and there are a few people that have had similar.Hope all is well and next weeks scan puts your mind at rest.

As Zing says, brown blood is normal. Dull cramps are ok as well. Any kind of one sided low down pain requires immediate investigation as it can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy. Also pain in the point of your shoulder needs checking out.
Hopefully this is normal implantation blood, it often hangs around for a while. Your GP should be able to do a pair of blood tests a couple of days apart to test your HCG levels are rising properly if you are concerned, or you could always speak to your EPAU for advice.

Sorry, was watching TV and not paying full attention! If your scan showed a sac, then ectopic is not an issue.
In which case this is more than likely a normal part of pg. Many many people here have the same issues and are just fine. You could still always try the EPAU for reassurance. Smile

Thanks for the reply guys, I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one and can be a normal part of pregnancy ! They thought it was eptopic and so scanned me but they ruled that out thank goodness ! Got a scan next week so fingers crossed !!

good you feel better. some symptoms can be scary - always best to check!

sharp pains can be a variey of things, the location intensity and frequency of them are key - as Saggy said shoulder pains need checking out, but anything that makes you feel worried should be brought to MW or GP attention.

don't ever feel you can't ask.

best of luck, hope things settle soon
