Reduced movements, getting sent for a scan :(

I'm 32+5 and didn't have a lot of movement over the weekend so called triage last night, they told me to come down for monitoring.
The baby's heartbeat is fine but even on the trace they weren't picking up a lot of movement. The midwife measured my bump and said I'm measuring 31 which isn't normally a problem.
They're sending me for a scan either today or tomorrow to rule out any issues as it's my second episode of reduced movement. Has anyone else experienced this? What can they pick up on the scan?

I have no experience of this but I would push for a scan today. Hopefully someone will be along soon with more advice about other investigations you should be asking for. All the best.

Thank you. I feel like kicking myself. Last week I was talking to someone saying how I wasn't enjoying being pregnant but I felt ungrateful as I'd had a complication free pregnancy.
Praying everything is ok. I know if there's a problem with fluid etc it's far too early for him to be born and that he'd be very poorly :(

It is early but my DD was born at a similar time frame and she is gorgeous. Try not to worry (easier said than done) - you and bump will be well looked after as they are so aware. Do not go anywhere until you feel comfortable that everything is okay (if you are still at hospital). Hope it is all good news x

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 10/12/2013 08:37

Hope everything's ok and baby's just not got much room to move.
The waiting is the hardest so hope you get your scan today Smile

If it comes to it that they do deliver your baby early, chances are he will be fine. I know of a 32 weeker who is a sturdy 3yo now and have seen lots of similar stories on here.

But there could be no problems now at all. The main thing is you have alerted the hospital to your reduced movements and are being checked. Much better than worrying about it at home and not wanting to make a fuss.

No advice but a hand to hold - it's probably nothing to worry about but its worth getting it checked Thanks

BobaFettTheHalls · 10/12/2013 09:25

Best of luck. X

IHaveSeenMyHat · 10/12/2013 09:37

Nearly 33 weeks isn't considered that early anymore, there really is no guarantee that your baby would be very poorly. Hopefully it won't come to that though, and you get done reassuring news today.

The best of luck at your scan!!

As has been said, almost 33 weeks isn't really classed as that early these days and there is no reason to think your baby would be unwell should he be born at this stage. I know twins who were born at 27 weeks and they are now happy, healthy 4 year olds Smile Try and stay positive x Thanks

Thank you everyone! The midwife rang me and told me the earliest they could scan me was Thursday :( I got very upset on the phone and said was I just supposed to go the next 2 days with no movement. Then magically a 4 pm slot opened up. So I will update this afternoon.

Good for you, it is not on to leave you until Thursday Angry

Hope it goes without incident x

Try not to worry too much it may just be as simple as baby being in a different position, sometimes if you spend time on all fours it can help them shift, sometimes baby is sleeping. Lying on your left helps too whilst being monitored. You can always try a coke or hot chocolate before monitoring, I always found that livened my baby up.

If they are concerned after the scan and need to deliver early then they will offer you steroids to speed up your baby's lung development.

I have been in antenatal ward (being monitored several times a day) for most of the last month after they thought I was going to deliver at 27 weeks (now 33 weeks), many ladies delivered early (24 weeks was the earliest and he is now in low dependency care in neonatal). The others born at 27, 29, 30 and 31 weeks are all fine.

My thoughts are with you x

Hope the scan went well Babysealion

Hoping your scan went well today OP

Babysealion · 10/12/2013 21:33

The scan was fine :) the sonographer said the baby is measuring a week ahead so not sure why my fundal height is a bit out but the midwife I saw afterwards said it's just one of those things.
Plenty of fluid and on the scan it's clear that there isn't a lot of room left in there at all anymore! They said if I have another episode of reduced movements to go back in but to be aware that some babies do start to slow down as they run out of room. Feeling a lot better this evening :)

Great outcome Smile

Heathcliff27 · 10/12/2013 21:42

Just saw this, glad everything went ok and good for you for querying the scan for thursday.

wifey6 · 10/12/2013 21:43

That's wonderful news. Glad all went well

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 10/12/2013 21:47

don't ignore it if you get reduced movement again (not saying you will) - we nearly lost my dd at 35 weeks when she stopped moving and I was sent away from hospital having been told that movements slow down as they run out of room. Trust your instinct and return and return again if you are worried - chances are everything is absolutely fine but you just can't risk a thing. I was scanned at 34 weeks just 2 days before everything went wrong and at the scan it all looked fine.

AnotherStitchInTime · 10/12/2013 22:02

Glad to hear all is well :)
