Hair loss

Hi ladies,

So for a few years my hair has been falling out regularly, now it is just really thin and sometimes straw-like. The doctors have been absolutely useless and simply just said 'Oh it will grow back don't worry about it' which is obviously easier said than done.

However, pregnancy seems to have given it a 'boost' I still lose it quite regularly but is probably looking the best it has in quite a few years. Now you can imagine the panic I am getting myself into at the thought of losing even more after giving birth. (I am 27 weeks pregnant). Has anyone had any similar experiences or any tips or advice to prevent severe hair loss? As I am significantly paranoid about it as it is let alone if even more begins to fall out!

Also I know there is a lot of 'medically knowledgeable' people on this site so if you are one and you are reading this pleaseeeeee could you let me know of any ways to prevent it, any medication etc I could request from my doctor? Or is it even possible to control my hormones after birth so that they do not drop so significantly causing such dramatic hair loss??

Thank you for your time reading this!

Hope you are all well and wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

I'm not knowledgeable on this at all but didnt want to read and run. Have they discussed the possibility of alopecia? I think you just need to keep pressing to get sent to a specialist, as now you can show there may be a hormonal link to the loss/growth?

Maybe if youre taking prenatal vitamins, that has made the difference?

Sorry I can't be of more help but thats what initially comes to mind!

My hair falls out too- it is crap isn't it? And yep, doctors are rubbish. I use minoxidil + mpg to prevent it happening and it works amazingly well. It is prescribed by the Belgravia Clinic in London. It is more expensive than Regain that you get OTC but much more effective and not prohibitively so. Unfortunately it can't be used in pregnancy or B-fing, but my hair didn't fall out when pregnant. The tricologist at the clinic said it is the one time when everyone's hair flourishes.
As for hair falling out after pregnancy, I was really worried about this too. I got to four months after and but hadn't fallen and I thought I got away with it- then it shed by the handful. It was everywhere. Just as it started to get to the point where I was beginning to panic it stopped falling out and settled down again. I was able to breastfeed for a year without my hair looking too thin (only hairdresser noticed) and then went back on the treatment afterwards.
You will only lose the extra hair that hasn't fallen out during pregnancy in the aftermath, so you shouldn't get any thinner than you were pre-pregnancy. HTH.
