Nah I think it's a complete myth that everyone enjoys pregnancy. I know some people do because they tell me so, but I also know a lot of people who hate it (me included). But it kind of feels like you can't admit as much in real life because it's unmotherly or something.

whereisthewitch · 05/12/2013 10:09

Nope I absolutely detest pregnancy. This is my second and my first pregnancy was absolute hell....this one is shaping up that way too. I just see it as a means to a very nice end that must be endured rather than enjoyed. I'm very jealous of people who glow and just sail through.

Elliejmulligan · 05/12/2013 10:12

awww thanks this makes me feel so much better. I never once had that glow! and i still cant eat a proper dinner, and then people think your being a moaning b*tch!

I hate it too. Sick for the first 16 weeks. In and out of hospital with my epilepsy (due to pregnancy) now I've got energy but a sore pelvis. Still waiting to bloom!

gamerchick · 05/12/2013 10:17

I detested it as well.. I think I've met one person who seemed to enjoy it.

Definitely something to be endured.

Even those who have text book pregnancy's and not much extreme discomfort make up for it with a huge bad temper.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 05/12/2013 10:19

This is my 3rd pregnancy and nope, still not liking it. At least I now know what to expect.

I can't get my head around how anyone can possibly enjoy morning sickness, heartburn, indigestion, altered sense of taste and smell, exhaustion, discomfort, increased vaginal discharge, swollen fanjo, varicose veins, piles, stretch marks, weight gain, extra sweating, waddling, high/low blood sugar, insomnia, needing the loo every hour in the night, difficulty in turning over in bed at night, snoring, drooling, nose bleeds, braxton hicks, sharp kicks, dry skin, greasy hair, spots, pmt, irritability, headaches, dizzy spells, swelling, irrationality and rage.

And this is a 'normal', 'healthy' pregnancy.

If you're enjoying pregnancy then frankly you must be insane/from another planet.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 05/12/2013 10:20

Forgot to add SPD to the list too.

ThurlHoHoHow · 05/12/2013 10:22

I hated. Hate, hate, hated it until I hit about 32-33w and for some reason started to cope quite well. Had HG though so it took a good 6 months to pass. I was probably the only person I knew who was happy in late pregnancy, but anything was better than constant vomiting!

It's just a myth. I don't think I know anyone who actually enjoyed being pregnant.

Elliejmulligan · 05/12/2013 10:32

Everyone I spoke to says oh i love it! love it so much! It really does play with your body! I cant wait to just have my body back to feeling normal, even though I wont get much sleep, i think id rather temporarily be tired than this!

I understand, I have done it a few times now and, honestly, it can be awful. people tell you you look great when you can't do anything with your hair, you feel like a sack of potatoes, you aren't quite sure you have matching shoes on and their perfume makes you want to hurl. That's without all the discomfort. The good thing is that, once baby is here, you just forget the majority of it and it doesn't seem so bad :)

KatAndKit · 05/12/2013 10:50

I hate pregnancy. The only good bit ix you do get a baby at the end of it and that does make up for all the crapness.

hamncheese · 05/12/2013 10:52

Hate it too. Second and last time here. I'd rather do five labours than a pregnancy. And my first was a three day labour at that!

MsFiremanSam · 05/12/2013 11:38

Hate hate hate hate it. Every single bit if it.

But, I LOVE giving birth - when you see your baby for the first time, all the lovely skin-to-skin cuddles, that newly baked smell they have....!

wispaxmas · 05/12/2013 12:19

I haven't even had morning sickness and I'm not a fan of pregnancy. I've been bloated, had indigestion, and have had 2 bad colds and a bout of bronchitis already and I'm only 14 weeks! It's like I have no immune system!

LastOneDancing · 05/12/2013 16:46

I don't mind pregnancy.

I do mind becoming public property - suddenly every wanker Tom Dick & Sally seems to think its okay to comment on my weight, touch my body uninvited and lecture me on their preferred parenting styles.

I LOATHE that part. I want to be invisible & left alone Sad

Pennythedog · 05/12/2013 17:01

I swore the last time would be the last. This time will definitely be the last. I'm 37 weeks and so uncomfortable. Of course when people ask I might say "Oh, I'm fine" or "I'm a bit tired but looking forward to meeting the baby". In fact I want to say that the baby is too big for my tummy, my back aches, I have pregnancy IBS, I cant sleep for the heartburn and 101 other whinges.

My husband was telling me that he will stop drinking in the evening in December just in case and everyone was sympathizing with him and saying how hard it will be. What a martyr. I haven't had a fucking beer since April .

I am looking forward to meeting the baby though. I hate pregnancy and birth but I do love babies!!

brettgirl2 · 05/12/2013 17:42

I reckon it's half and half 'lovers' and 'haters'. Bit like Marmite. Not pregnant thankfully (a hater myself Grin )
The end will come. .....

Honey786 · 05/12/2013 17:55

Definitely not enjoying my pregnancy for all the symptoms mentioned. I'm only halfway with my first and hate it. I remember I was looking forward to becoming pregnant and thought that u would enjoy every moment. Little did I realise how much I'd have to endure. Can't wait to feel for my body to feel normal again.

Inglori0us · 05/12/2013 18:01

I loved it first time and I hate it with a fiery passion this time.
Still feeling & being sick at 21 weeks, can't sleep, feel slow, heavy and tired.
Hips hurt. Headaches. I feel fat.
I miss wine. A lot.
I miss my nice clothes.
I miss sleeping on my front.
I miss baths where I can get my whole body under the water.
I hate strangers talking to me.
I can't wait for this to be over.

Romily · 05/12/2013 18:06

It totally depends on the kind of pregnancy you have. One of my friends was glowing and looted her way through it on a wee happy cloud. Another was ill and sore from day one and I have had ups and downs. Now at 31 weeks my ribs are constantly sore, my back is threatening to go and I am soooooo tired. Oh and thanks to gestational diabetes I can't even smother the pain in chocolate!

However my hair is very shiny and I do love the fact I don't have to breathe in!

everythinghippie29 · 05/12/2013 18:15

Nope, I'm 39 and 6 today and can honestly say that I have not really enjoyed any aspect of it!

HG at the start, insomnia throughout, heartburn, bowel joys, dry skin, PUPP rash, terrible back pain, anemia. Its been a string of uncomfortableness! You are def not alone. Grin

I felt guilty at first that I wasn't a glowing, beautious mum to be! I'm excited as hell to be a mum though!

Hope you feel better soon and just focus on the end goal! Thanks

cupcake78 · 05/12/2013 18:22

I hated every minute of my pregnancies but on a positive note it made the first few weeks/months of baby much more enjoyable because I had my body back. Wasn't being sick anymore and felt relatively normal!

Peanutsmummy2be · 05/12/2013 20:27

Emily i feel your pain....im nearly 35 weeks & feel bad for saying it but also have not enjoyed this pregnancy one little bit!! Had hyperemisis from 6-14 weeks then got diagnosed with GD which has been a pain in the arse to control, started vomiting again at around 28 weeks until 32 weeks. Went off most food, only craved ice. Got told I had carpel tunnel last week at my clinic appt & my bloods eventually came back this week that I now have obstetric cholestasis Angry Shoot me now!!! lol.
I nievely thought pregnancy would be wonderful....pah!!!
Sorry everyone else is suffering too Sad Hugs xxx

Peanutsmummy2be · 05/12/2013 20:28

Oh how did i forget the anaemia, sciatica & uncomfortablemess!!! Smile

livingzuid · 05/12/2013 21:22

The worst thing for me has been the fear and anxiety. At 14 weeks now and I can't relax and enjoy this because every twinge I think eeek and every scan I've had I've obsessed over why they are staring at xyz for so long, did the baby move, is it well is it ill, did it move enough, is the heartbeat too slow, what if my NT results suck, etc etc. You name it I'll fret about it. As if the physical symptoms weren't enough it's having the psychological strength too. It's exhausting.
