I've name changed for this in case anyone in RL is lurking and it outs me.

I am about 13 weeks pregnant, first scan booked in 2 weeks. For the past week I have been bleeding (not a huge amount), it started off pinky brown and gradually got darker and darker with some small clots. I rang the hospital and my midwife and they both said it sounded normal and to call back if it became heavy like a period or painful. I asked if there would be any chance of an earlier scan but the midwife said it was unlikely the hospital would agree and I havent heard from her since.

Pregnancy symptoms have vanished, although I know that can be normal once you hit 12 weeks. I have googled this lots (I know, I shouldnt google) and there are very few happy endings.

So I decided to take matters into my own hands and have booked a private scan for today. At least I will know what's happening. It's the not knowing that I hate. If it's bad news then of course I will be devestated but at least I have good things coming up to focus on.

The few 'happy' stories I have read have referred to one episode of bleeding or if it is prolonged bleeding then it's the pinky brown stuff (TMI, sorry) rather than red.

Need some good luck today and any advice appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have any advice. I'm 6 weeks pregnant, first pregnancy and as of yet no bleeding. But I just wanted to wish you luck, and hope everything goes ok today. Will be thinking of you.
Xx

Good luck today OP. Flowers

Wishing you lots of luck. I've had bleeding on and off throughout this pregnancy (including a couple of big, gushing, bright red bleeds which then continued as brown and red for a couple of weeks) and I'm now almost 22 weeks pregnant and the baby is absolutely fine. Bleeding can be a bad sign but sometimes it is just one of those (absolutely terrifying) things.
Really hope you get good news xxx

Wishing you lots of luck and everything crossed! I sympathise with you, just had pregnancy confirmed and estimated to be 9 weeks pregnant few symptons and feeling great. At work a week ago yesterday when I began to bleed quite heavily (bright red, no clots), spent several hours at a&e, then bleeding stopped. Had to wait 24 hours for a scan and didn't expect good news. Had a scan and to our surprise they found two embryo's on screen, however they were very small and no heartbeat detected as they estimate me to be 5 weeks. They looked full sacks so I am booked in for another scan next tuesday and hopefully they will have measured an increase in growth. I am still spotting dark blood and going out of my mind with worry! Tuesday can't come soon enough when I might have a clue as to what is going on. I hope you get good news xxxxxx

I had bleeds at 7 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks. I have also paid for 2 private scans for reassurance because I couldn't wait as long as my hospital wanted to before seeing them for a scan. Baby has been fine on all 3 occasions and I'm now 24 weeks gone. Good luck x x

BlackholesAndRevelations · 05/12/2013 12:47

Good luck xxx

wispaxmas · 05/12/2013 12:51

Why not call the EPU, or would your midwife have to refer you? If you've been bleeding for a week you should be given a scan. I would be on be phone asking for one today.

Also, why is your first scan at 15 weeks?! What about the nuchal test? Are you not having one?

TicTacZebra · 05/12/2013 12:55

I was going to say ring the early pregnancy unit too. Surely they should be giving you a scan after a Week of bleeding. Good luck op. Let us know how it goes. I'll be thinking of you today. X

wifey6 · 05/12/2013 12:55

Thanks for all your replies.

Sorry, it may not have been clear from my original post, I did call the midwife and the hospital, hospital (antenatal dept) advised to speak to midwife and midwide felt it wasnt urgent. That was why I booked the private scan because I needed to know and wasnt getting anywhere.

It isnt good news though, I had a miscarriage this afternoon. The contractions started on my way to the scan. I knew as soon as they started that I was contracting, even though they werent strong. The sonographer (who was the most lovely and kind person I think I've ever met) confirmed that it was bad news and I had a miscarriage this afternoon on my way back from the scan. Sad

We're gutted obviously but focussing on our other beautiful children.

Thank you all your replies and lots of love to everyone who is expecting at the moment.

Thank you Smile I'm lucky to have a lot of support. I hadnt told many people I was expecting, but those I had told have been brilliant. We're sad but we'll be ok, I think I had prepared for the worst. Thank you all though.

I am really sorry for your loss. And I'm sorry you had to go private and weren't supported by the NHS, although it sounds like you had a great sonographer to give you the news at least Thanks
