Scan at 13+4. Cutting it fine for nuchal translucensy?

I've just had my first scan appointment through and it's going to be at 13+4. Cutoff is 13+6.
I have a feeling I'm going to be a little further on than my dates say. What if it turns out to be late for the test? Is there other options afterwards or should I call back and kick off?

Yous houdl be fine- the translucency can be measured outside of the 13+6, they just have to adjust the reading for the gestation. Also it's clearer beetween 11 and 13+6 but doesnt mean it can't be done. See what tehy say tomorrow, and most importantly see what the reading is.
Your other main option would be to go straight to having the CVS done, which can be done now- any time after 11 weeks.

Could you call back and explain the situation and request an appt sooner? even if you could get 13+2 it would be better. What are you now?

I'm 12+2 today. Appointment is over a week away!

I think you can have something called a quad test from 15 weeks, it measures blood markers

ChicaMomma · 04/12/2013 15:17

Why dont you call them and see if you can get it moved to Mon or Tues next week? That is your only choice here.

The CVS is only available up to 13 weeks by the way.. this is an actual positive or negative result- the nuchal translucency is terribly inconclusive, especially if your reading is on the high side, it can end up causing a lot of undue stress as you can see from other threads on here. I think next time i'll go directly to the CVS at 11 weeks on the button, save myself the drama and hassle. That said i had a v low reading this week of 0.47 nuchal fold (at 11+5)- so no reason for further testing- but on my 2nd i'll be closer to 40 so really do think i'll go straight for CVS testing. Just my tuppence worth.

I had the same issue...apt for 13 +6...I called them and they changed it to a week before no problem and had loads of spaces left. I was worried that baby might be in wrong position to get a reading and I knew I'd go crazy waiting until 16 weeks for blood test. I'm sure they'll change it if you explain x

Hi, I had my scan done this week at 13+4 with bloods taken at 13+3. They will call with results next week. It's fine although they got me in for the blood tests straight away. It can be done so if you can't move the appointment don't worry. Alternatively if you can afford it do the harmony test which is also non invasive. I will do it depending on my results from the nt scan - hoping to save money and not go though!

I had scan at 13+6 by my dates (could not make it earlier for various reasons) but I turned out to be 14+2 by their dates, and it was too late for NT. Sonographer said not to worry, they did the quad tests at 15?16? (can't remember exactly) weeks which she said was the same accuracy give or take, as the NT. Came back low risk. Baby is fine. :)

HeyJudith · 04/12/2013 21:31

Oh but if you have chance to change the date then definitely do so, I didn't because I couldn't make it earlier than 13+6 due to being out of the country but otherwise I would have had it earlier.
If your appointment can't be changed then you could consider arranging a private NT scan for peace of mind, (keep your original NHS scan though) and if NHS scan too late for NT you can take the blood tests. Covers all bases if you like :)

I managed to get it changed for Monday. Hurray!
