I had a sweep done this afternoon the doctor said I was 1cm dilated and 'soft'.
I bled straight away and also had a brown guey discharge the size of a 50p coin around 2 hours later.
Been having period type cramps all in the lower belly and occasionally in my back as well as usual braxton hicks here n there
No other signs though!! What were your sweep stories?

I had a sweep at 37+6, was already about 3cm dilated though (didn't know it).

Massive contraction around an hour later, waters broke an hour after that, DS arrived 4 hours after that.

Hopefully the same for you! Good luck!

I've just period cramps all night and quite abit of brown discharge still, also a lot of bowel movement. Nothing else yet though! Going to try going for a long walk id prefer going into labour naturally before being induced next Tuesday!!

Sherbet2 I had a sweep at 36+5, I was also dilated by 1cm (2nd baby). My doula recommended a warm bath with jasmine oil, and drinking lots of raspberry leaf tea with cinnamon sticks the night before I went in for the sweep.

I had the sweep in the morning, went home, cooked a chilli, ate it, put a wash on, hung it up and started feeling period like cramps. I called my hubbie home early and contacted my doula (this was 3pm) by 8.30pm I had my DS.

With DD (my first) I walked around a lot, and climbed about 200 steps in an old castle and then another NT property down the road. I think that got things started too (at 37 weeks).

Out of interest, why were these sweeps offered before 40 wks? I thought they only ask you once you seem like you're going overdue? Or did you request one?

I have Cholestasis :)

I had a sweep at 38 weeks, labour started with a vengence 36 hours after the sweep and DS was born 6 hours later. Good luck!

I'm not in the UK - where I am sweeps are offered earlier, as are inductions and elective sections.

Any more news Sherbet?

Sherbet27 · 05/12/2013 22:47

Unfortunately I have no news! Other than losing lots of brown discharge and my mucus plug, with cramping. I've not had anything else so looks like I'll be getting my induction on Tuesday to help kick start labour :)
